New owner : Inside the battery compartment and other chat

Being a new owner of a 500 ( which im having a lot of fun with ) im very curious about everything about it


does anyone have an idea what the funny connector inside the battery compartment is? I know the RAM - I put some in. but what's the long white one - a potential for akai to create an add on? or just some kind of service aid?

also I would like to know do the buttons soften over time? as they seem very tough to hit at the moment making the pressure sensitivity almost useless ( even after playing around with the sensitivity settings ) it would also be good to be able to crossfade samples depending on pressure - is this possible?

The white connector next to the batteries is supposedly for service by Akai, some people think it could be used to connect an IDE harddrive viewtopic.php?f=26&t=94927 (I agree it looks like an 40 pin IDE connector, but I don't think hooking up a 3,5" harddisk would be practical )


The pads do soften over time, I had to send my first MPC500 back because it was faulty. When I got my new MPC500 I noticed the new pads were stiffer. (I like to leave the sensitivity settings at their default values).

Crossfading samples isn't an option, you can however velocity switch layered samples in program mode.

Yeah keep banging away man... They get softer but they aint as soft as the other MPC pads like on the higher models.
