"Unkown File Format" for .wav files

Hey guys - quick question. I have a whole bunch of .wav sample hits that I want to transfer to my MPC 500. How come when I try to put these samples on my MPC I get the error message File Format Unknown???? I know they are .wav's any help please - this is real annoying as I thought you could drop and drag sample from your computer to the MPC. I load them and then try to load each sample but get that message...any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Could be the Frequency and the bit resolution. The MPC 500 -as well as the 1k and the the 2500 i think - can only handle 44.1 kHz Files in 16Bit resoultion. Check your files by taking a look at the specs of the files. If they are - for example - recorded in 48 kHz and at 24 or 32 bit resolution, you need to convert/resample them to make em work in the MPC.

The files play in Real Player but when I try to import them into Pro Tools it tells me pro tools does not recognize this file

16 bit 44.1khz and 8 characters is what they need to be.

I've noticed when I get this message I can't assign the sound to a pad while loading. But actually does load the wav file to memory!

Try loading the file and don't assign it to a pad, then check program or trim mode to see if the sample was actually loaded.

I had this happen to, and even if they were able to be loaded, I might get a clicking sound or no sound at all. Another thing I found out is that are 4 or more types of .WAV files. If you have them loaded on to your PC or can view them via USB, right-click and view properties of 1 or all the files. If you look at all of them and the .WAVs say something like Multiple File Formats, you can't use them all. As far as I know the only type that the MPC can read is PCM Format. I don't know why, it's just a fact. If you really like the samples and want to keep them, you can convert them using a program called SWITCH or WavePad. They are free trial versions. Worked for me. Hope this helps a little.
