Sync Help. =?

Hey guys I been trying to sync my MPC500 to my Sony Acid Music Studio 7.0 so I can record my MPC tracks to it.

Just like Lithion is doing here... But he uses the 1000 and Cubase instead...

I just need to know what settings should I put my MPC500 on so I can have it controlled by my DAW so that the recording is all timed correctly? I went through my manuel and sh1t is not working??? Im going to kill myself if I cant get this to work.

Man, don't commit suicide over such a minor issue!!!

The only thing you have to do is: go to MIDI/Sync mode by pressing Mode + pad 7 and set Sync to Slave (if you want MPC's playback to be controlled externally). Set Sync to Master if you want to trigger rec/playback of your DAW by pressing Play on MPC. However, the latter also depends on DAW's settings (you have to configure it to receive a clock signal and respond to it accordingly).

The problem you may be encountering is that your MPC doesn't receive the clock signal from your DAW. Check out Acid's settings and your MIDI routing for that.

Sometimes a faulty MIDI cable can interfere if everything is set up correctly. If so, try another cable or just swap the current cable's ends.

Yeah dude I have it set to slave... But I guess its my DAW... Sh1t is giving issues... Its not the cable though because when I used my MicroKORG as a MIDI controller it worked beautiful!!! But with the MPC to be slave Im having issues... I need this to get done so I can start recording my music the correct way and so I can also cut off certain drums to go according to the lyrics. =)

Im going to call sony and see if they can help cuz their forums blow... Nobody is ever there. lol

WOW Sony is complete crap. I was going to call them but you have to pay them for support??? Isnt that just insane!!! You buy their product and they wont help you by phone unless you pay for the service... How crazy.

But anyways I figured out why it was not working and thats because I can not synchronize with the Sony Acid Music Studio 7.0

So now I gotta buy a new DAW. It aint that bad though cuz I did get Sony Acid Music Studio 7.0 for free.

Man, buy something serious like Cubase or Logic (if you use a Mac). I've also heard that Adobe Audition 3 was good (it fully supports VST plug-ins now), so you can check it out. I used it when I was on PC (but it was a 1.5 version then) and I really liked it, cause it had both powerful audio and multitrack editing features. And it was stable and relatively easy to use.

Anyway, don't give up your Acid DAW easily. I'd recommend you to try to find its MIDI settings and check if it is set to be the sync master. If its sync function is set to "Off", then it is probably the reason for your MIDI setup not to work.

Well I was planning to purchase Cubase SE 3 today.

But Music Studio 7.0 has nothing in the manuel about synchronizing and nothing about Master. Sony Acid Pro does though... They are different versions.

So yeah I think Cubase SE 3 is my route. What do you think??? You seem to always know what your talking about here on the forums.

I have a Cubase AI 4 (that's a bundled version) installed and it seems to be very good (though my G4 Mac laptop is a bit slow for it, I think). I really like its effects plug-ins. Though, now I switched to Logic Express 8, which is way better for Mac.

Well I did purchase Cubase SE 3 bt then I had to return it because it does not work with Windows Vista. =(

Thats the first time Vista screwed me over... As of right now with the research I did only Pro Tools works with Vista and does syncronization.

So I think Im going to just hassle it with what I got now because I dont want to spend 300 dollars. =\

Maybe later down the road... Or maybe by then there should be more DAWs compatible with Vista.

Not at all! Well, why don't you try Cubase Essential 4 then? Vista is mentioned in its System Requirements. And the price is the same as for the Cubase SE 3, according to GC web-site.

Essential 4 is a upgrade/ update. cant use it without buying Cubase 4 which is $800 or buying Cubase 4 Studio which is $400.

The price on these DAWs bites hard. lol

At this time it looks like I gotta wait because I just bought a MicroKORG. =)

So, it's just a limited version of Cubase 4 (like mine AI 4). The Cubase AI 4 that I have on my laptop appears to Sync with my MPC 500 (MPC set to Slave, Cubase is master). However, Cubase just won't Sync as a Slave for some reason. I think that's because MPC can only transmit MIDI Clock as a sync signal, while Cubase can only receive all sync signals, but MIDI Clock The same thing happens with Logic, by the way.

Your absolutely right. The damn guy at Guitar Center told me it was an upgrade so I didnt even bother looking at it... This is the least expensive and most effeciant DAW on the market!!!
