about mpc 500 timming control

help im new to the whole pad thing and when i record playing the pads its off beat and theres a timing control feature on my mpc but i can never change it only the swing i can change. am i doing something wrong i read the manual and it sais i can do it while recording or something like that im so confused could anyone help me !

Apparently, you have TC (Timing Correction) feature switched off. To switch it on, you must press TC button and select a TC value: I'd recommend 1/16 for starters (that will result in every midi note you record to be snapped to the nearest 16th note position).

If you want the part you have already recorded (without timing correction: TC Off) to be more tight, then you should make use of the timing correct feature in the Seq Edit mode. Look it up in the manual how to edit sequences in Seq Edit mode.
