New user to MPC500 just a few questions

I just bought an MPC500 from a guy but he took all the sounds off the unit and the flash card. i know you can but new flash cards with sounds on them from akaipro.com. my question is can i buy a 2GB compact flash card and buy a few of those cards off of akaipro.com and put them all on the 2GB card?

swap and sanp are free...dont fret on the missing sounds they are pretty basic and you can get elsewhere. I rip from CD versus sample and add effects to give a vinyl feel

You can plug the mpc straigth to your mac. The mpc will show up as an external hard drive.

I've found these two sites extremely good for free samples and loops (most of the audio is quite dnb-oriented tho).

i play drums in a band and i want to get a roland v drum pad for my drum kit so i can add 808 drops and other things. i wanted to know if that would be capable of doing with the mpc500?

Yes, that is possible. You can hook up your V drum pad to MPC via MIDI and trigger samples from MPC by playing on the drum pad. You'll need to make a program and assign note numbers to MPC pads that would correspond to MIDI note numbers, transmitted by the V drum pad (you can check V drum's manual for that, or easily find it out by connecting drum pad to a DAW via MIDI interface and playing on it: the incoming MIDI note events and their numbers are usually visible somewhere in the DAW's transport panel).

You can also try to find out, if there are any factory samples in the Internal flash of MPC. Press Mode + pad 2 (Load Mode). Scroll to Load: Autoload. If it is set to "off", set it to "on". Then switch off your MPC, wait for a few moments, then switch it on again. If there are any samples in the Internal flash, they will load to RAM (if you have already bought a CF card and inserted it into MPC, eject it before switching MPC on).

It's great that it worked, man! You can also download and store the factory bank somewhere in your Mac or PC, if you want (see my previous post for the link). Bear in mind that when you have Autoload function ON and insert a memory card in MPC, it will automatically load the Autoload folder (if there is any) or the contents of "INTERNAL" folder (if there is no Autoload folder) from the card, not from Internal flash. The card has the priority for Autoload function.

I am into drumming too, by the way (only I'm the beginner at the rudiments drilling stage though - hate them already )

Thats awesome you play drums also! how long have you been playing? You will pick up the rudiments pretty fast if you just even sit down for 30 minutes a day. i played snare in drumline in high school so i picked up rudiments fast. it was a good advantage.
