Building Instruments

Hi, hope everyone is well.

I just wanted to ask a question about "building instruments" within the 500.

I've seen videos of other producers (Boon Doc being an example) playing full rhodes sounds out of a program from their MPC 1000(a keyboard hooked up). This lead me to believe that they could use their MPC's as a normal sampler, assigning a range of sounds to different notes and playing the keys (like a software sampler).

My question is, is there anyway to do this with the 500? Or would you have to just use the 12 Levels option? (which I don't think will give the best sound when expanding a wide range of notes).

Hope this all makes sense, I'll dig more into the manual tonight and let you know if I find anything else.

You can use multi-samples to build up instruments. There were posts with detailed description of the process some time ago. Basically, you'll need 3 or 4 sampled notes for each octave to build a keyboard instrument. And you can transpose the same samples to fill in the gaps between the sampled notes. MPC allows to layer sounds and trigger various layers with different velocity, so it actually allows you to build quite realistic sounding instruments.

A program like Blue Box which is free will load Akai AKP instrument files and convert them to MPC pgm files with all samples mapped.
