you cant update the OS that way... but im not sure why its not showing up on your desktop

What do you mean?

Under the install instructions it says to plug the usb not the computer and the CF should show up on the desktop.

I don't see it anywhere.

I plugged it into a PC and just the HD showed up.

Is the Flash Drive bad perhaps?

oh ok, im sorry, i was thinking that you were trying to update from the Harddrive of the MPC 5000.

Well, did you install a CF card into the MPC 5000? Because it one doesnt come with the MPC 5000(you have to buy your own).

If you want to see the Harddrive, you have to "mount it" from the MPC 5000, but i believe the CF Card pops up automatically on the computer(if i can remember correctly) if you put one in the MPC.

i have a macbook, with OSX, and it has always worked flawlessly with mine, even early versions of 1.0 since i've had it since august '08.

its not a mac problem, or a software problem, .... so i don't know what to tell you.

... do you at least have OSX?

we have to see if he even has a CF Card in the MPC, or if he even mounted the Harddrive from the MPC to know exactly where the problem is

Let's see...

I DID read the directions. Which said (I quote):

6. Insert Compact Flash Card into MPC 5000

It WONT show up on the desktop of my MAC PRO.

I CANT Format the card

The error messages that I got lead me to belive that the Flash Drive does not work.

I called AKAI. They confirmed this and swapped it out.

Problem solved.

Don't assume because someone is new to your forum that they haven't troubleshot the problem before asking a question.

Thanks for the EXTREMELY helpful replies.

homie, dont trip because we are trying to help you by toubleshootin your issue ourselves... we cant only just go by what people come to the forum and tell us, because most times on here, people dont read the manual, or forget to do one small thing

I NEVER CAME AT YOU WRONG IN ANYWAY, IF YOU FEEL I DID, I APOLOGIZE... but you may wanna lighten up if you are gonna hang out around here cause everyone else aint so nice

You may wanna go back and read you initial statement which stated nonthin about the CF Card, its only stated that:

"Subject: MPC 5000 not showing up on the MAC"
Post: "I can't get it to show up on my desktop therefore I can't update the OS. Anybody else have this problem?"

which said nonthin about the CF Card, so with your original statement not suggesting the use of a CF Card being involved, it led me to believe that you werent tryna update from the CF Card, but only from the HardDrive"

next time, if you could, tell us everything that you have already done so the next people that try to help you wont have to run in circles and you get pissed because they dont already know what you have already done

Hook:

Best Idea I have heard.

Why didn't they include a USB port on the unit that you could put the CF into?

CF drives are kind of crappy technology in my opinion.
