This is an MPC 5000 thread. I was asked to give an "opinion" and that is what I did. Never said I was right. I never compared the MPC 5K and 4K. I didn't notice any differemce in sound between the 5K and 2.5K. Actual forum members gave their opinons on my 3K and 2.5K test.

As far as the 4K and 2K...I found the sequencer of the 2K "tighter" than the 4K using the same settings. My humble opinion of course.

Now I will fall back and let you guys continue to gripe/complain.

How would you rate the 2500 (whether running Akai default OS or JJOS) next to the 5000, excluding the screen and synth?

Good Question and needs a detailed response.anybody???

Honestly...that is like asking how do you rate Pro Tools and Pro Tools LE. The MPC 5000 (Pro Tools) does everything the MPC 2500 (Pro Tools LE) does and has many more functions. There are too many threads with the details. The question will always be whether you need all the additional functions of the MPC 5000.

No, not necessarily, because if I asked how you rate an Infiniti M35 to an M45 and you told me "well one's a V6 and the other's a V8," then you're simply stating the obvious technical difference. Now if you said "well yeah the 45's a V8 but it's not even worth the extra money because you barely even notice the difference" then that would be how YOU personally rate it. I know on paper the 5000 is just a 2500 with more q-links, a bigger screen and a synth, but I never hear people complain about the "sound" of the 2500 as they do the 5000. Now don't get me wrong, I'm DEFINITELY not getting into the "mpc-sound" crap, just stating that I thought you might've come from a different angle with your opinion. Sure when it comes down to it it's really all about what features you really need vs if you really care about having extra ones you'll never use,

but basically I've got a 5k and will never use the synth. I've gotten accustomed to the big screen but it's not a must, i love the blue/white contrast and while the 2500 doesn't have it, this "supposed" 2500 SE will. I'm altogether unfamiliar with JJOS but I suppose what I should've asked was whether or not you felt if sacrificing these things like the q-links and screen size etc would be worth trading the 5k in for a 2500, with OR without JJOS.

yeah its a lengthy post, i know. Hopefully you read it over some coffee :)

Have "you" compared the sound of the MPC 5000 with the 2500? I have. I didn't notice any difference in sound.

The "supposed" 2500 SE is available...here in Japan. If you own an MPC 5000, I couldn't see why you would trade it in for a 2500 unless you simply don't want all the extra features. and you wanted something smaller.

You have to use the 4k in OFF-96 for it to act like the 2k

Come on Jahrome you can do better than that.
You used the 2500 with JJ just like I did ( even used the 1k w/ JJ) so you know that the 5k with OS2 is still a better flowing OS.
The synth and Arp are far from worthless the Q-links are necessary for the layout of many of the screens.
The added features some of which JJ still lacks are nicely integrated.
The TT connection and ADAT makes it fit well into many setups.
While some one would argue that they could do without these additions why would they?
New 5k=$1649.99
New 2500=$1499
Do the math.

Look....I know the MPC 5000 is a much better MPC than the 2500. And it just received a major upgrade. There are plenty of things possible on the 5K that the 2500 cannot match regardless of OS you choose. I do want to see Akai address any remaining issues with the OS. However, I am not here to convince people to buy it. If you like it..great. If not, buy an MPC 2500. Both of them are awesome machines.

I feel sorry for all you cats who got the machine and were betrayed by numark. Im glad I didnt! They could atleast dump the MPC 5k and make it open source, as well with all the other MP models.

Linn Drum 2 is going to be killer. If its MPC 3000 with little extras im getting it  Till it arrives, Ill keep on using fruity loops

And I feel sorry for ID's who post sh*t like this.
You don't even have a MPC to compare it to and are trying to knock the 5k.

The beauty of the internet at it's best.
