MPC5000 reviews, bug reports and fellow user support on the most recent standalone, hardware MPC from Akai

It's not a ram module it's a proprietary module.
Akai didn't like the fact that people were using unsupported RAM in the 1k, 2500 and 500 so they assured that the 5k would allow that.
They even gave away the memory for free with the purchase of the 5k to keep people from complaining.

From experience with the MPC 4000 and older Model MPCs, getting the right memory is essential to getting the MPC to work properly. Some RAM modules caused the older MPCs to malfunction. I believe Akai branded RAM modules that are guaranteed to work in the latest MPCs to avoid compatibility issues of the past. Of course MPC users are free to use other modules which may or may not work.

I am not sure if anyone in the forum has tried this, but if you want a cheaper version of the EXM-E3, try locating the RAM module for Alesis Fusion. They appear to be identical/similar.
