i have much experience with hardware and software.and i use a mpc daily.without it ill most probable be inputing the data(drums ect) more with the mouse or like md in a more controlled way.and tweeking after.well mpc helped in this respect as i started with the (r8) and learned by playing exactly how i want it in.mpc is the best tool for the job.its so simple and i can layer everything in moments.with a loose uncompromised playing style.live!!i work in short bits so it suits me.and control all synth sampler computer in the same way.there quicker than every thing ive tried.and i deal in music gear.its a stand alone powerhouse.always was and will be.all machines have there limitations.the 5k certainly.as far as the filter sweep is concerned.if you dont get it right first time,do it again.

some negative comments on MPC might come from people who have not only an MPC , but actually have a lot of other gear they can compare it to.
consider me one of these people.
softwaredriven hardware (yes your MPC is just the same computer you all love to hate) that is not updated in more then 1 year is just a joke, again I am comparing agains gear of the same or even far lower price (machinedrum, blofeld, monomachine, virus, soft-synths, ...)
MPC5000 a complex machine ? don't think so, that's also the succes of the MPC's, it is in fact just a very simple machine.
but try something just a little more complex, let's say try to edit a filter sweep, and you'll see quickly how restricted the machine can be for users that need more then just laying down a two bar kick/snr/sample-from-a-record loop.

Most people only have an MPC, so yes, if they can not compare it to anything else, it is the best machine out there...

I wasn't really serious when I said that, the machine is messed up, but getting your panties in a bunch isn't going to help. It's understandable, but why not remain positive and use(or develop) some critical thinking skills to make the best of things.

I guess I'm considered a user if I have to show my boy how to use his. My only gripe thus far is getting a feel for how to navigate around it.

Def a big difference from how I work on my 4k.

One here in Lisboa, Portugal!
Bought it already with OS 2.0 and the memory upgrade as a bonus!

I bought it over the 2500 SE and the Roland offers because the 5K has this superb built-in synth that can be used for electronic productions and other crazy stuff!
This is my first MPC but not my first AKAI product, I already owned a MPD24 and a MPK49, altough I've sold them because I dislike software production! I'm more into instruments and so... but now I regret the MPK49, that keyboard would make a nice couple with the 5K synth!

Are there any rumors about a JJ OS release for this beast?
