MPC5000 reviews, bug reports and fellow user support on the most recent standalone, hardware MPC from Akai

Hello to all of you!

A few days ago I posted the following topic:

Hello!

I just bought a MPC5000 and I am very happy with it! But there is something that really puzzles me and I would like to ask if someone is willing to look into this and try it on his or her own MPC5000.

If I load a single wav.file from the Loopmasters collection on the hard-drive, for example if I go to the folder with all the snare drums and select a single wav. file from this folder, all the editing functions for that sample (after it has been assigned to one of the 16 pads) work perfectly...filter cutoff, resonance, etc.

But.....if I load the entire snare drum folder instead of just one wav.file not all the editing options are working as they should...I can still adjust cutoff, resonance, level, tune, but NOT the LFO settings, amplitude envelope settings and filter envelope settings....yes, I can adjust them on the display but you will not hear any tonal changes as is the case if I just load one single wav.file.

The manual doesn't mention this...so is there someone who has experienced the same problem or is there someone who would like to try this...if it is a software bug...well at least I know then that nothing is wrong with my machine.

Many thanks if you are willing to look into this!!

Best regards,

Now...I got a reply from Ghosty who is experiencing the same thing.

So I contacted Paul from Loopmasters and he tried it with his own MPC5000...however everything works just fine with his machine. He suggested to re-install OS 2.0.

Is there someone else here who is willing to look into this because it really puzzles me and I just want to be sure nothing is wrong with my machine.

Many thanks!!!

Hi!

Thanks very much...that would be great!

Well..I just have the MPC5000 for almost two weeks now....I haven't tried this with other libraries or folders I saved my self.

So at the moment...yes I only experienced this with the pre-installed Loopmasters library.

Once again thanks and I am looking forward to what you find out!

PS I also noticed that in the problems I described the samples are always playing at full volume...regardless of the setting of the dedicated "Full Level" button. Again...only when I load for example the snares-folder. Not when I load a single wav.sample from within such a folder.

man, I had the same thing super bad when I first got mine. I was ready to punch the thing when, atleast as I remember it, I just had to change some parameters, almost as to activate them. you can set them back to whatever they were set at, but it needed a little kick start.

The other thing is, does it have any problem with longer samples in the collection? I dont remember what was in the loopmasters thing, but try loading up a whole folder of maybe that grand piano and trying it there. There isnt a whole lot of room to adjust amps and stuff on snare drums.

Hello!

Thanks!! But the problem is...I did not change the name of any of the files in question...I am just using the Loopmasters-folders which are factory-installed by Akai...

Another strange thing...the harddisk of the MPC does not show up as a removable media on my Mac...the CompactFlash card does, but not the harddisk.

Anyway...I am still loving the 5000!

Regards,

Pieter
