I just went the opposite way on this. Sold the 5k because I have a 4k. From exerience, I can say the 4k is much more in depth, though there are definitely aspects of the 5k I miss. I liked the pads better, and I found the sequencer just a bit more intuitive. However, if youre looking for the 5k as an all in one with the synth, Id suggest looking else where. For me, atleast, I struggled with that synth for over a year. But the 8 track recorder is fairly helpful, if you do any live instrumentation. Either way, both are very capable, dont listen to people who knock the 5k too much. It has its weaknesses, but so does everything else.

They sound a bit different. The 5000 has different windows for a different workflow, designed to be more streamlined. 5000 has the synth, the 4000 has aksys. Theres a comparison thread somewhere around here. Personally ive owned both and prefer the 5000. Oh and the 5000 has an updated sequencer. Forget it, too much too name. Look for the comparison thread.

P.S keep the 5000

Whatever you go with, make your decision based on how the machines perform right now. Don't buy anything because an update or bug fix should be coming. As former 4000 owner I'm partial to the 4000 and it's reliability.

Just out of curiosity... what is it about the 5k that you prefer over the 4k? What is it about the 5k that 'gets the job done' for you as they say?

Might be the more useful piece of info for people to give you a thumbs up or down when making a decision.

well i actually brought the 4k b4 i got my 5000 i only had it a week and i upgraded to the 5000 as i had had a demo on the 5000 previous to buying the 4000 so wen i got home and started playing on the 4000 i was to be honest dissapointed which is why i upgraded but i guess its just down to personal preferance i think the 5000 is awsome the best thing i ever brought ive heard all the storys about the 5k not bein stable i gotta say since i made sure i hadf it connected up CORRECTLY regarding the midi etc i havnt had a problem with it never when ive used my mpc as a standalone has it froze or anything works like a dream and as for the rumours of the synth bein rubbish i have to disagree, ok it might take some fiddling with compared to other synths but its capable of some pretty fresh sounds and it carrys the best white noise ive ever heard on a synth b4 and i have a few big guns in my studio to be honest i would have to urge you to get the 5000 it rocks!! its not the flag ship mpc for no reason go to a store and play on it see for your self make your mind up then

just want to add as well my mpc is turned on everday and used for around 8 hours on average, quite often its on 12 plus hours

The 4000 is the flagship! not the 3500 (5000).

Stick with the 4000!!!!

I have both and one is not better than the other. It comes down to a matter of choice and what your looking for in a machine. At the end of the day it's not the car, it's the driver.
