The Last Straw - Please Help

I also ordered mine online. I specifically mentioned no refurbished, returned or demo model wahtsoever in my order before sending it.

When it arrived the box was rather small and light. When opened it had a 500 in it with a memory expansion for the 5000. The receipt was stamped 3 times!!! So 3 people **** up. I was pissed because now I had to wait again. I was saving up over half a year for this.

Luckily they send the 5000 before I've send the 500, with another memory expansion.

To be honest, I was really crossing my fingers to not have a melon. All I know was, after testing the only demo model left in the shop around my corner, I had to have it. I lucked out.

The way I see it, they sold you a lemon (kind of remind me of horror stories with used car dealers) You should return the unit, get the money back, and move on (means don't buy from the store.)
Jah (member of this forums, a MPC-5000 enthusiast) could've help you determine whether or not your 5000 is really lemon or not, but I guess he hasn't read this thread yet.

Okay so instead of GC, where do you suggest? There were talks of having got a 5000 for around 1100 bucks. Where do you get these kind of deals. Where is your "go to" place for gear?

You can find some great deals on Craigslist. But if you live in a ghetto area like myself LOL. I'd suggest meeting in a Starbucks & meet a friend. Plus you can find a plug in ( make sure it takes a ground )
Plenty of people get robbed buying broken/untested gear...... Or just straight up robbed.

I just seen a local guy selling a whole studio setup for 2800 & that included a lot of stuff..... Even a very nice condition MPC 60

Yea, that's not for me honestly. I like to have a guarentee, that if in two weeks I start seeing some off the wall issues (like in this case), I like to have that assurance that I can get it fixed for free, or even better, replaced. I usually buy the extended warranty for these kinds of things. The whole craigs list thing would not be for me in this type of situation. Theres only so much testing you can do in the 10-20 minutes you meet up with a person to buy it. It took me a few days to come to the realization that these things were not user error and were actual problems with the unit. At first, the unit would only play back progressions incorrection or with missing midi data, once in a while. And I just assumed "Oh, thats just me playing out of time, and the time correction pulled it to the nearest 16th, making it sound like that." But once a few days passed and I put some hours of testing on it, I started to see that in some cases ENTIRE BARS would go missing. The funny thing is, if the T.C. is turned off, this does not happen.

I feel like when I goto GC to pick up the new one this week, I should bring my headphones and lay down some basic drums and make sure that the new one is not a lemon either. But when I picture someone else doing this, I would look at it as a bit over the top. So when it comes down to it, I dunno if I will actually do that lol.
