For those interested I just tried out an old drive from a sony vaio 2006 model. Firstly I soldefed pins 2 and 3, as descibed by someone else in a youtube. No problems loading s1000 programs on cd, also reads data sample cds, and plays audio cds. The drive is not a teac, so if you have a spare drive you could try it out.

For those interested here is the vid from the youtube dude. I used a slimline drive, and have had no problems at all. Best tip; you really need a fine tip on the soldering iron, and a magnify glass helps, big ups if you have a swag of akai cd roms lying around, it reads them.
Also can sample from audio cd's.
