about the 8 track hard drive recorder... ...are any of you guys using this as your main multitrack recorder?

what do you guys think about it?

i have my own opinions, ...but i'd like to know what you guys think.

its not designed for that. its more for making long samples react like drum loops. being able to mute in and out instantly and what not. instead of waiting for the start point to bring it back.

Thats not completly true... it was mainly made for recording things like live guitar or piano on to your tracks... but I will be using it as my main multi track recorder for vocals also for a second... until I can get a stronger computer and pro tools.

just remember that anything you record in uses voices. and it was never meant to be a hard disk multi tracker. and live guitars and piano would fall right under the whole long sample theory

I am still testing the limits of this MPC...

However, I was under the assumption that the sampler is 64 voice; 20 voices for the synth; 8 tracks of hard disk recording. So are you saying from your experience with the 5K that using the hard disk recorder uses up the 64 voices of the sampler?

Hmm wasn`t one of the selling points of the 5k to be an all in one unit to bounce tracks down on the 8track hard driver and master it like a MV???

Guys, after testing your 5k's for performance/feature issues, let us know if it's another Nukai promise broken as usual.

Us 4k users can hip you to all the details about this.

Yes, the 5K can record/bounce/mixdown to its 8 hard disk tracks to include external sound modules connected to it's inputs. It can also import/export 24 bit tracks/files. The MV-8800 doesn't have 8 tracks of hard disk recording...maybe the Just Blaze endorsed MV-9000 will?

As far as giving the real deal on the 5K..we are here everyday doing just that. In the MPC 5000 manual it states "future versions of the operating system will include things like new features requested by our users as well as improvements to existing features." The forum feature request threads has numerous suggestions. My question is...if Akai/Numark add these suggestions, will there still be so much hate going on in the forums?

So like the original questioner asked are you using the HD recorder to mix down your tracks?? Cuz one person said that it wasn`t build for that but long samples and I thought that was odd.

How does it perform and how does it sound compared to an standard DAW like Pro Tools and etc???

Before some of you start up on some 4k vs 5k simple shit. Just answer the question on mixing down a song down to your units HD and then onto CD??? You are using this right??

True, but the last update we got was pretty solid. I guess it'll be a while before the 5k can muster up the same in reliability, so you'll need all you can get at this moment.
