Donating Pot For Final MPC 5000 OS Update!

After all, I am willing to open this thread as a theoretical(!) "donating pot" for a final update. We can write down here how much money each of us would contribute/sacrifice to get the OS fixed. If we reach a certain sum, we could handle the result as an official letter over to Akai. If they agree with it, everybody pays their suggested part.

I think just the fixes will be $1000. And if we reach $5000, things are looking good to finance a 3.0.

PS.: I don't want to start a discussion if it's fair or NOT fair to pay for an update. If you think it's unfair, just don't contribute. Thanks.

None of the original coders that worked on the 5K are still working there, so this is all a little bit fruitless, don't you think?

What would prevent them from coding again if they get payed?

Not knowing the code wouldn't help for starters, neither would the fact that the 5K didn't sell in big numbers so there's not that many of them about.

What you basically need (and it's a huge long shot) is to track down whoever worked on it originally, hope he's still got the code and ideally that he's broke and fully prepared to be sued as long as he gets a few hundred dollars by tinkering around with the OS for you. Not likely is it?

Nukai have zero insentive to revisit a failed product like the 5K. Sad but true.

Actually I was thinking of the original coders who should get payed again... the idea is that Akai doesn't want to invest any money in it, so we could offer that for Akai. Hiring them just a bit for this project would solve that. Akai got their contacts for sure.

I'll donate $200 just to shame Akai.

That is assuming that they are interested in doing it, not too busy with other stuff, still on good terms with Akai, etc., etc.

Akai already promised OS version 3, which never happened, so not really sure how much chance you have with this idea, but would be good if it was possible.

If the recent OS version 3 promise had any truth to it, then it should be possible, and should have already been in progress.
