8)

Akai added a Frequency Shifter as effect to the MPC5000. That is *really* cool!
This effect can beef up your dull sounds by giving it a stereo feel, a chorus feel, a phaser feel, or you can use it more extreme for FX sounds.
Believe me, this is a killer FX.

A few quick examples, first dry then the effect mixed with the dry sound:

Parameters for the effect are:
– Frequency
– Async
– pan A
– Pan B
– A gain
– B gain

No that would not be wise. New features means almost certainly new bugs.
Even this, parameterwise, simple effect has one little bug that I just came across. But that can be fixed easily.

Which pieces of gear do you use the most nowadays? I remember you telling us that you also have the 4000. What's the status on that?

The 4000 will probably go in the end. Although I don't like the idea to let go the 24 bit sampler, the 5k wins on all other territories for me.
Of course, the fact that I am testing it, forces me to know/investigate every feature and parameter, which makes me feel very much at home on the 5000 by now.

Just finished another song with the 5k today:

LOL....
I'm hoping... I've already sold my MV & I preordered my MPC the 1st week in february.... so, if they ship on time I should have mine early next week.
I'm also lookin at that new control surface from euphonics or a new preamp....

The pad is Waldorf Blofeld, the second Korg PS-3100. The lead is V-synth. The two sequences are MPC. Bass SH-7 and drums TR-808. Oh and one drumloop from the mpc at the end.

Scd, i know you are prolly a busy guy, but it would be realy nice if you could knock up somthing only using the mpc. Ok sampled drums (could still use the 808, but make the bd bounce ffs.....booom :) but the rest VA. I dunno what, maybe just complimenting chords/arps. I think this will give a clue as to where things are headed with the 5000.

As beta tester for AKAI I don't think anyone expects you to rank the 4000 over 5000. That's not blast and I actually appreciate you posting your experience with the 5000 . However, anyone that gets a free machine before release has an unwritten obligation the manufacturer. That's just real ,not a blast.

The 5k is close to perfect, love the back to simplicity method
but the Top reasons why Ill not switch to the 5k from a 4k

-24/96k just sounds way way better !! sample some vinyl and hear it foryourself!

-pitch envelope! vital!

-editable sample startpoint per layer , vital!

-keygroups

-indepenant filtersetting per layer (you can simulate this ple via multiple pad triggering on the 5k)

-2nd lfo (never cant have to many)

-freely assignable modulation matrix, including vital destinations to liven up your samples like parts of the envelope and startpoint modulation

To sum it up!

add 24/96 quality, 128voice poly, 2nd lfo w envelope and startpoint mod destinations, pitch envelope, and editable startpoint per layer on pad and Ill jump on it !!!

untill then the 4k has this vital edge, that makes it just more of a full blown sounddesigning tool..
