Blue Haze, from reading your post several times, I can't disagree with anything (except where you imply Akai is not getting it). Maybe we had some wires across but I have been trying to say the same thing. I would need a more powerful MPC to do the same thing I do with software.
And I do want Q-links to control all keygroup and sample program parameters as it does with the Synth programs. But it is no deal breaker for me because this is what I am use to for so many years. Since the Q-links sends MIDI CC messages, you can control parameters of your software and hard instruments. If I am understanding your correctly, it seems you want the MPC 5K to receive MIDI CC commands to control its synth and sampler. Is this correct? If so, I can't recall much talk about this function even in the MPC 4000 Forum.
To answer your question, you can tweak keygroups while the sequencer plays like you can do with any type of program. You can freely jump to nearly all modes and adjust all parameters while the sequence runs..a key feature of the MPC 5000 as well as other newer MPCs.
As far a Rock On, I have done business with them for years..both new and used gear. I usally check their website everyday for used gear. I even purchased two or three MPC 2500s from them when they were first released. I am glad they moved to a bigger place. Initially I wasn't going to Akihabara but since Rock On was closed, I had to make the trip.
