Run this motherflucker through a Sp-1200 and I bet you'll get an amazing sound.

(I'm guessing the 5000 won't be able to do this, so I'll ask for it to be a software revision)

I really need it to be able to change BPM during playback. That means single hits (without pitch change), chopped loops, patch phrases and (crucially) all tempo-derived effects.

Too difficult?

Sounds like you need one of the Roland products...

Why? Anything of the above is possible on the 5k if I understand it correctly:

– You can change bpm in main mode and you can program tempochanges in edit mode.

– Single hits will stay at the same pitch of course

– Not sure what you mean with chopped loops?
A chopped sample MUST be converted into a patched phrase or sliced sample. Chopped just means that the mpc will calculate markers at equal points or attack points in a sample. Nothing more.

– patched phrases will definately stay at the same pitch. That's the intention of that feature right?

– and all syncable effects sync to tempo. Tempochanges will not unsync the effects.

So...

I am not sure but I was assuming dude was talking about real time timestretching or pitch shifting. If he meant somthing else...my bad.

Ah... well, if he meant that, then indeed there is only real time timestretching when using patched phrases.

No. I meant I need to change the BPM of tunes on the fly, during performance. Just like a DJ does with a turntable ...only keeping everything in tune and (obviously) time. Is this do-able?

Yeah, sorry. I meant, "chopped loops/patched phrases", not "chopped loops, patched phases". Sorry for the confusion!

Regarding my earlier question about using the q-link section as a 'mixer' for the eight tracks of HD-R; If that can't be done, could I assign the individual sample tracks (rather than the HD tracks) via MIDI to controllers on, say, an Allen & Heath Xone 3D, and mix them that way instead?

Yes. I should almost say: "of course".
You will slow down (or speed up) the sounds, but the *length* of the sounds will stay the same of course (unless you use patched phrases, but that only makes sense on samples with a "beat" inside the sample). So there is not a real time timestretch function for single hits so to speak.

Nope, that is not possible now. I think Akai didn't focus on stearing anything on the mpc (except the clock) from the outside world, which makes sense, being it a MPC(enter).

But I would love to see certain things possible though, including controlling mixersettings and synthparameters with outboard gear. Hopefully in a future OS. I will enter this as feature requests in the bugtracker.

Is it possible for Akai to come up with technology similar to Rolands Variphrase thats in the V-Synth?

Also, are you trynna tell us that there are features in the 5000 that were not announced at namm?

scd wrote:So, finally a little synth mp3 from the MPC.

A bit cheesy maybe,

Yeah the intro sounds like an 80s horror flick... But thanks for that, the synth sounds very good!

I'd also be interested in hearing the new filters on some drum (particularly kick) and melodic samples. Thanks again!

Yes, wanted to do myself a filter comparison as well. But first I have to celebrate my birthday today .... 44 ..... :D
