A great synth programming book and a simple midi keyboard would be great to make your own sounds with the 5k`s build in synth hmmn??

Just a thought if not the follow the others points though like the little phatty. :?:

Here are a few to get you started have a look and check out Alesis website as the 5k is based on the fusion engine so alot of tutorials are based on it as well.

yeah I agree with the people who suggested te rack units such as motif, triton, or those types. Because you can utilize those with your mpc, and always grab yourself a sturdy midi controller later on when you have the time. you have an mpc, so you wont really need something like an m-audio axiom, but they are really good controllers though. The 25 key is good, but if you can get the 49 or 61... you get full buttons so it is a hell of a lot easier to program.


I hear that the mpk is not to hot, though it looks nice, however I know no details on why they are apparently crap.

id probably get a virus A or B you can probably find the
A for that price range and the B will probably cost about 500 or so these days?

i have a B and it rocks, amazing for sound design plus lots of knobs!!

def a good keyboard in terms of price and sounds... but the keys on it SUCK. feels like a toy.

Alesis micron is a bit better and is aimed more towards dance styles.. the microKorg has phat basses but you need to tweak the hell out of it..

that lead sound and the Vocoder sound you hear on snoop doggs, drop it like its hot, is from the MicroKorg. They even had it in the video :lol: :lol: :lol:

yeah well good. because it makes your sound less recognisable and more original. I find people wack who just use presets and use only premade drum loops etc... you gotta do stuff to them to make it different, or make your own loops with the sounds you chopped from the original.

Like someone mentioned, go with a good controller (full size preferably) and add a module. You can't get any better than that.

Im thinking about buying Access Virus TI Synthesizer..**** expensiv but i got the money... but i need to hear the sounds in it before i buy it..

Check out the demo on the website and alot of major dance records use that synth I was thinking of buying a table rack model one day. Ken Ishii uses one of the Virus I believe.

It's just my opinion of course but I use the Access Virus Ti Polar and a Korg M3 for synth work. I think they are the best. I have two or 3 Rolands and I can tell you they are great but the Virus and Korg are better. I am just a beginner at keyboards but these make me sound like a pro.

I can only agree to that! I think the 5k internal synth is quite capable in comparison to mostly every synth u get for around 200-250$. Play around with that and save your money for something else! As long as you don't master the 5k synth I wouldn't even think of gettin' another, especially VA synth! :D

BUt what i think is crappy is that u cant hear the synths u want to use before loading it to the main screen.. so u have to load alot of synths and see if u want anny of them.

i know u can put em in autoload but it will take some time to autoload all of em when u turn the mpc on..
