Layered sounds doesn't sound consistent!

are you serious? i 'always and only' layer samples when i construct drums.

i have 'never' had this problem.

i only rarely layer the same sound, but when i do, i have changed the pitch of at least one of the sounds along with the volume which is actually the 'amplitude'.

so i have never experienced phasing.

if you play two identical samples a little off kilter at the same note and amplitude, that my friend is the very exact definition of the 'phase' or 'flange' effect.

yes...when identical sample is played a little off the sound phases...which means the timing varies when the layered samples are triggered over and over...

I'm playing different 3 samples all with same velocity settings...all with quick and strong attacks...and I can hear the sounds change after several hits...which is basically telling me that the note timing shifts and it's not consistent. MPC timing should be dead on with everything...weird...

Im on the MPC2500 and i also have this problem! damn i thought i was the only one...
Its more noticeable if you play the pad repeatedly and fast.. some hits sound different..
If you layer the same sample 2 it phases cause they are triggered by the machine with a tiny delay the causes the phasing, flanking fx.. quite annoying...

its because the mpc isn't 'sample accurate'. which means it doesn't play sounds at the exact same time... like millisecond differences which give you the different phasing problems..

Even if the MPC is not "sample accurate"...the problem is that it is not consistently inaccurate...The sound keeps changing off and on throughout a track...

so resample yourself hitting the pad a bunch and chop the ones you like..

or tune one of the samples up/down a little

As I mentioned in one of my previous posts...I know how to get around it by resampling from output and picking the right hit, etc...I'm just upset that the multi-layering function of the machine isn't working the way it's supposed to...When the machine costs $2500 everything should work as it should...

Well, maybe before next new model mpc is release, we will get a fix for this. I just don't understand why it takes so long for akai engineer to release updates. All sorts of electronics receives firmware, patches and os updates many time faster than a simple ass sample drum machine. In the time akai takes to release a update. The mpc5k should have the same feature and function as a new computer running window 7.

Thats because they just dont care and what is really selling is midi controlers for software.
The "NuAkai" Black MPCs only sold as much as it did until now is because of the OLD reputation of Akai MPCs and cause famous producers use it.. people think like "If alchemist uses this and has great beats then ima get me one of those!!" haha no, serioulsy the technology on the new MPCs should be way more advanced... like the 2000XL and the 3000 in their time.

Amazing how after all these posts nobody from Akai or anyone can come up with solution or even acknowledge the problem...

this isnt a site that Akai cares to speak on or about... cause they have no control or ownership of it... every once in a while, a representative may speak, but i can understand from a companys perspective on why not to engage in the forums activities.... especially if they dont have monitoring control

just resample that biatch.. not sure if a 4k or 5k can do it though, i'd be surprised if they can't! just keep recording untill one hits in phase and thats your kick..

also try resampling a few different ones, pre filtered.. one with a heavy low pass, one with a hi and low pass(so you just get the mid range), and one with just a high pass.. then they should sit better on each other.

otherwise just detune one, tune one up, then play with levels.. tuning by .50 at a time.

Again to repeat myself...I know how to resample from the outputs...and I'm not layering 4 same samples...They're 4 different samples...and they all need to be EQ'd separately so resampling is not really an option...

My complaint is...that this function worked perfectly on my S5000...and a unit at this price should just simply work...without problems...especially something this simple...

I think everyone agrees with you on that...

would this be the by the hiphoppers so called 'unbelieveable rock solid timing of the MPC' that no computer or any other hardware can equal ?

again a proof of the ultra poor implementation of MPC...sequencer and sampler sooo integrated that it can not even deliver the most basic things this machine is supposed to : to play it's samples at exactly the moment you program it !

I'm only keeping it because this could be such a powerful machine with a serious OS update, but it's my most expensive gear but the least used of it all ... gathering dust big time.
