A service manual is a wealth of information that will eventually save users a great deal of time and money. I've put in some time searching sites that sell schematics, but no luck yet. Until then, most of us are at the mercy of "specialists" who will overcharge us for repairs that could be done by the owner with a small amount of basic info (part numbers, connections, etc). Many people will also be dependent on foolishly overpriced retailers like "MPC Stuff" which makes money by overcharging for basic parts that can be purchased dirt cheap from an electronics site or ebay.
exactly, and with a tool like the service manual you could look up specs of components and you might not even need to find the exact brand and model of a part... you might even be able to track down another component with those similar specs that will work just as good if not better.
