If someone knows a technician who would be willing to scan this document and pass it on as a PDF, that would be amazing. Youtube videos serve a purpose but they're not even 5% as informational and helpful as a service manual. A service manual is a wealth of information that will eventually save users a great deal of time and money. I've put in some time searching sites that sell schematics, but no luck yet. Until then, most of us are at the mercy of "specialists" who will overcharge us for repairs that could be done by the owner with a small amount of basic info (part numbers, connections, etc). Many people will also be dependent on foolishly overpriced retailers like "MPC Stuff" which makes money by overcharging for basic parts that can be purchased dirt cheap from an electronics site or ebay.

exactly, and with a tool like the service manual you could look up specs of components and you might not even need to find the exact brand and model of a part... you might even be able to track down another component with those similar specs that will work just as good if not better.

Hence, it shouldn't be far-fetched to think there might be someone here who has one for the MPC5k too... anyone?

haha, nah.. I was just curious if they didn't respond or did they tell you some story of why they couldn't give it to you? (ie: you aren't an authorized akai dealer.. or something of that nature)

No, I'm far from an Akai dealer (although back in the previous millennium I was woking/dealing with what has now become this 5k product). Hence -- to clarify -- I never heard back from Akai.

Maybe you didn't bother, because it's common that companies don't give out service manual to consumers.

I'm going to ask a few dealers here in Holland for you. Maybe they can help me.

Hey there, I'd just like to thank everyone who is giving this some effort. I currently have my 5000 popped open and successfully replaced many of the tact switches. I ordered them from Mouser Electronics. At MPC Stuff these switches are going for some silly price like $8. The ones I got at Mouser...28 cents. Here's the part number I used for the tact switches. They're the same as the 3000 I believe:

Mouser Part #: 688-SKHVBE
Manufacturer Part #: SKHVBED010
Manufacturer: ALPS
Description: Tactile & Jog Switches 6.0x6.0x5.0mm 160gf
