I'm listening, what did you think was garbage about the 2500?

I mean the 2500 isnt garbage per say but my experience with my 2500 was garbage, but I just think the 2500 sounds too computerized as do all the new black MPC's even the 5000, but if you want a 5000 and youre on the 2500, get the 5000 upgrade to OS 2.0 and youre done...

It may have something to do with your skills at making music....not the MPC.

in case you guys don't know, ... there's more than one reason why askia is by far the best poster on the 5k forum.

if you guys are new on here, you should have been here when the 5k was just released, ... that man would tear every thread up and feed it back into itself backwards.

much rspct. 8)

just got a 5000 as a xmas gift a week or so ago...had/still have a 2500...my pads went bad on the 2500. I'm in love with my new girl, but I had no issues with the old one until she started buggin'.
I think it really comes down to what features you'll utilize the most. After starting with Roland gear back in the day, flash forward to now, I can easily say that MPC's are for me. So I figured I'd get the most full featured one possible. Honestly though, I bet I could get by on any of 'em.
have fun smacking your pads this holiday season, everybody...Peace

Nah, my Ram chip broke inside my MPC...I can make beats, I make pretty decent ones, Im on the 5000 now so obviously Im not all that bad, especially being a user that runs 2 separate MPC's...I loved my 2500 because it was my 1st MPC but I had too many problems with it, I had deleted all the effects out of it, it was naked, and my Ram chip broke inside the MPC...so it sucked...But my 5K is good to me....**** 2500's but then again youre using one so I take that back...

So I've found out the hard way that Akai bugs can kill work, and the programmers don't seem to care when something blatantly doesn't work. I like the 8 track hard disk recording, midi note editing and bigger screen. Is it really worth it though? Am I going to find a whole new bunch of bugs (like the 2500 was before 1.24).

No need to write a book, just a thumbs up or down on buying a 5000 when I have and love the 2500.

Thumb up if if worked. But both my thumbs have been so far down since purchse. Major disappointment in my case.

Hi daveyP, I've seen your posts. I have a love/hate thing with my MPC because some things don't work, but it makes that amazing sound and its easy to concentrate on the groove not the machine. Once in a while it might lock up, I thought it did that recently but I was still playing while trying to edit trim points. Not my fault, all the tracks were muted so how was I supposed to know it was playing?

My point is MPC's are great and terrible at the same time. Anyone who hasn't been bitten by the MPC bug might never understand why they are so highly regarded - yes even the post MPC60 models 8) They are not for everyone. Of course you had more than a few problems, but some people never get the MPC vibe and in a world of technology there's no need to.

"but I just think the 2500 sounds too computerized"

Aaaaaargh, I can't take it no more! hahaha!
Now come on dude...Really...what are you talking about?? Post an example. I can't wait to hear this "ludicrousity!" (I made that word up because NO WORDS can describe what you just wrote!) HAHAHA!
Now, my personal opinion is "People, use what you use!" Thinking about upgrading? Try the new machine out! You wouldn't buy a car without test driving it. You wouldn't buy a TV without looking at it first. THE LAST PLACE TO ASK FOR OPINIONS IS THE INTERNET! Look around and read the messages, form your own opinion, and ask SPECIFIC questions. If I've been using an MPC500 for 3+ years, I will be able to justify the small screen, small size, etc and give reasons why I don't need anything else, but if you ask the same person a question like, "is the 500 as stable" you will get a yes or no response. Only an idiot would buy a mpc5000 and say, "the 2000XL is much better" ...unless he sold his 5000 for whatever reasons.

"I used to have a 2500, 2500 is garbage"

I've never touched a horrible MPC in my life (unless it was faulty), but..
You cleared up your reason why you called it garbage, but where is the music at? Talk is cheap! Convince us folks that don't have the 5000! We need enlightenment! :)

Nah I mean the 2500 isnt that bad but when you delete all your effects and your ram chip breaks inside of it it would make the experience with it garbage...Understand?

Arrrgh! I talked myself out of buying the MPC5000 but just got paid and its relisted on eBay. The lust has returned. Specific question for 5000 users: I'm syncing an external sequencer by midi clock from the 5000, does the external sequencer play in sync? It sure doesn't with OS 1.24 on the 2500. Can anyone confirm it is reliable on the MPC5000?

If it is fixed, me and my money are parted soon

I don't know how you deleted effects, or how a ram chip broke "inside" the MPC, but I guess I can understand. Sounds like a very isolated incidence, but from that experience, I would probably leave ALL mpc's alone...

I midi-sync all my hardware to MPC5000 and this part of MPC delivers well...all in tight sync without any problem.

Different hardware boxes are synced, not one has a problem : TR909 / TR808 (synced via Drumstation) / Monomachine / Machinedrum / Acidlab / Laptop
