That right there should tell you just how clueless they really are. Just about any tech reference on the CF standard will tell you that the only difference between type I and II is the physical thickness of the card and a higher permitted current draw for the type II. If the device can't handle the current draw (might be an issue with some battery powered pocket camera device, but not an MPC) then they're not supposed to fit it with the wider-slot drive to accept type II.
Pathetic...but typical for them.
