In Cubase you have to add a bus for every input/output you want to use. There are also preset templates for the Ins/Outs. I use a Alesis MultiMix12 Firewire so I had to manually add 14 mono, actually I created two configurations 4mono/4stereo ins and 14 mono inputs. I can't really explain how to do it but in short I know you have to go under devices, vst connections and click add bus, create 8 mono inputs and make sure the selected audio device for each input is the Project Mix I/O. Cubase starts off with a stereo input and out by default. Its similar to the in/out configuration of Pro Tools but its not graphical. PM me if you have anymore Cubase questions, by helping people it helps me learn. I am using Cubase Studio 4, but I have been using Cubase for years and if I remember correctly all are slightly similar. This information is also in the manual but I am just trying to offer assistance.

BxJaze wrote:First time using an MPC. My 5k has 8 assignable outs, and my Projectmix (M-Audio) has 8 Ins. How would i set my MPC's outs to record into Cubase? I've read the manual and it doesn't really specify how to assign the outs, just that they're available (which is obvious).

The manual also suggests that it's good to plug your MPC stereo outs into the monitors for the "Best output mix" of the MPC....but if i do that, i'll have nowhere to plug the audio outs of my ProjectMix (which is also the PC's audio interface) to hear the sounds coming from my PC (vst's, for example)....any light shed on the best setup would be helpful.

Chapter 10 - Mixer Mode, first page of the chapter

Ok I have read this page maybe 10 times and still the only thing i see related to what im trying to do is "Entire tracks of a sequence can be sent out of these outputs." then the rest of the chapter talks about sending out the individual pads... wtf am i missing??

im sure its right there but i just cant seem to see it!

What exactly are you trying to do? Explain your setup in detail.

Well I have my 5K and a MOTIF Rack pluged into the Record In inputs.. im looking into purchasing a new computer (mac or pc) and also an audio interface or pci card but before i do that i want to be sure that i can track out my "Entire Tracks" simultaniously via the 8 outputs on the MPC... which it says you can do in chapter 10 first page of ch. with no detail on how to do entire tracks...

I want to know this before i purchase so i can know how many audio inputs i will need on my audio interface. maybe what im trying to do is impossible and has to be done 1 at a time via the track mute way but i want to be sure.

the reason i want to go this way is so i can start to interagate vst's into my music for more versitality at a cheaper price than hardware. but if this is not possible i may just get a used fantom x6. but im sure i have seen it done before

here is a video of pretty much exactly wat im trying to do but i canot find out how to set the mpc end of it up.

However many indiv outs you have on your mpc is how many channels
you can track simultaneously.

do i not have to set which tracks assign to which output? or is it just arm and record?

Of course you have to set your routing.

I dont think they mean plug the main stereo outs in while you are tracking(if so this is some new engineering technique)

Now if you had 10 inputs on your Project Mix or other audio card/preamp, you could use the stereo outs as well, to have a total of 10 outputs to send sounds to your audio card(but thats on some other sh..t)

so wait... you can use the audio outs as an extra two outputs or do they still play every track??? like, do they play what isn't being routed to the 8 outs??? i remember with the 2000xl you could route to 8 outs but the main outs would still play the entire mix...

10 outs would be amazing!!!!
