So, in between the applecake and beer some compressor tests...

It's 4 measures dry, 4 measures wet
1. The master compressor:
http://www.synthmusic.info/mp3s/comp1.mp3
Settings a bit extreme, but a nice living sound

2. Master compressor, but now in Oldskool version:
http://www.synthmusic.info/mp3s/comp2.mp3
It sounds more "dusty", clearly there is some filter at work in the high regions

3. "Compressor Opto" in the effects section:
http://www.synthmusic.info/mp3s/comp3.mp3
This one gives some "Grunge" in the sound (snare). I like this one!

4. "Compressor VCA" (effects section)
http://www.synthmusic.info/mp3s/comp4.mp3
Sounds more like the master compressor but is more tameable and clearly implemented for finetuning audio content.

5. "Compressor vintage" (effects section)
http://www.synthmusic.info/mp3s/comp5.mp3
This is a nice one too! I've left after the 4 wet measures again 4 dry ones. Listen how "dead" it suddenly sounds when this compressor is turned off.

All in all very good sounding and good editable compressors to my opinion.

yeah, the opto and the vintage ones sounded good even on my crappy macbook speakers...me like :)

Belated happy birthday wishes Boele!

Not only is your help invaluable, I've also just discovered I'm not the oldest one in here! So, CHEERS! :D

A bit cheesy maybe

Ahh, your birthday was Sunday? Cool, mine was saturday.. bit younger though, 36.

Great track there. The synth sounds nice. Definitely usable. I'll check out your compression demos later in the week.

Thanks folks. Congrats Avene! :)

Here is an improved version of the synthsong:

More sounds, better mixing (well, to *my* taste) and oh, I turned on the bassline that I had muted by accident in the first version :D

Hey Boele,
I really like those "Kraftwerk"-Pad-Sounds starting at ca 1min45sec, great track :D
I´d like to know how the Q-link controllers act in the synth-modus?
Is thre any kind of "pickup"-modus?
Thanks

Just to be clear, you're only using an MPC5000 for all the sounds and processing on that track?

Yep. And all sounds are the VA synth, all effects are the internal ones as well. except the drums where I used the pre installed Linn9000 sampleset.

Hey scd, im very curious about if the 5000 reads 1000/2500 project files without problems. I'll pm you a project and you could try it out.

I'm impressed. I think I'll have to demo a 5K ASAP! Cheers for all your help.

hey scd, i´m very interested in the new timing features!

mayby you can upload some different timing/swing settings, so we can hear what this strenght/windows function does?
