i think sometimes less is more
the mpc should remain a beat making and sampling machine and let the likes of korg , moog novation etc concentrate on the synth side of things.

if its not careful i fear it will stray down the path of some of the roland gear -
amazing but far too over complicated and multi studio based.

i own an mpc1000 but still think the 2000xl range is the best of the crop.

if its not broke, dont try and fix it!

Well, in theory you are right, but since the synth section is completely independable from the rest of the MPC (THAT is what I like about modes so much on the mpc), it doesn't disturb you when you do not want to use it.
To me it is a *very* valuable extra to the 5k. For me the HD part is not really needed, but since it is again another mode it doesn't bother me really... so in theory you are right, but in practice it doesn't matter too much.

If it is not broke, see if you can improve things :)

thats not the point - they picked up the VA free from alesis and need to throw in stuff to boost the 'flagship' status of the 5k. synths are still hot, their marketing team figured they would attack the 'bugginess' (oh the irony) of softsynths and boom, we have a new ad campaign

Cheers Boele for your example,

it's the kind of music no one would really call "typical MPC", as we always expect something like chopped samples! I think the 5k wil make the MPC series move away from the reputation of a "hip hop" machine.

Hopefully AKAI doesn't make the same customer service faults as with the 25k. They should have someone work in these forums as Roland has this Mike Acosta guy helpin in the mvnation forum.

Well, we all can only hope the best. :D

I think the main market for Akai will still be in the hiphop and surrounding scenes, although I know quite some people that use their mpc the way I do: as a computerless hardware midi sequencer with build in sampler (in my case that means: with build in Grand Piano and Mellotron mainly... :D)

Akai would be stupid to put an employee here on this forum: with all the negativity going on towards them that would be a waste of time.
They better set up their own forum with more relaxed, polite and constructive threads...

I gotta say I was looking at the 5000 like why, but after reading all this and listening to your mp3 files where you used the synthesizer, I just might need to save up and get this. I already have an asr-10 and love the sampler, but I really want an mpc again to use as like you said the midi controller/sequencer. Thanks for doing this thread SCD, it was very helpful.

:)

I did some sounds for the Waldorf Blofeld factory presets, one of them is called PPGesus.
Somehow there is a connection...
