Look Guys, know need to talk about this rebate thing again,it's been over.
So if you didn't get the 5k by may 1st, then tuff tuff. GC had to honor the rebate as a
sale and tax right off exemption thing. A friend of mine who work for GC (Manager) told
me the same thing about he couldn't sale me the 5k and give me the rebate to, so what
I found out is that he was just doing what he was told by upper corporate office people, that's with all GC's nationwide in tell customers that they (GC) couldn't honor the rebates, and that Akai was responseable for the rebates which was stupid to say to customers (False Ads) So what I did was just ordered my 5k through GC.com
price match with DJ Deals.com for $1984.00 printed the $ 600.00 rebate out myself, and
Got my rebate back within a month. So I hate to hear some didn't get the rebate, and good for those who got their rebate...... All I can say.....is I got mine.

Believe me, the likes of 'NI Maschine' will bring the prices ( new ) down on these before long. There are more units like the Maschine in development and these are all pitched at around £400 Sterling ( $600 US ) ... the capabilities of these units is really quite staggering and they are making the top end MPCs look like poor value ....

I know that many have expressed alternative views to mine about this, but the used market is already coming down here in the UK ... new have hsaved off around 15%.

The Difference between NI as a company then Akai(or whatever people wanna call em) is the MPC still has the MPC timing that people try to immitate... although Akai does need to up their technology because they are behind, but, i havent used one of these machines to really even compare to an MPC yet, so i guess its each mans own opinion.....

I bet if I posted couple samples one from ableton other from MPC you would not be able to tell which one is which. Let me know if you're up for it

haha...in earlier post(s) I pointed out that when using 50 MB of samples in OS2 and you change from one Program to another, you get a hickup in Timing ! I don't know where the 'legendary' MPC timing comes from because in my studio it's the most un-synceable unit I own (I compare to RS7000, Machinedrum, Monomachine, EMU XL7, even Ableton).

Maybe timing is rock solid if you use 5 Programs with only a bunch of samples like most Hiphoppers do, for me it's not enough though...ok, when the MPC is playing and you don't touch a knob, then the timing is ok...as soon as you go into a menu/scroll to other Program it's timing is way off !

so yes : post up some ableton loops and some from MPC and I also am quite convinced people will not know which loops come from MPC/Ableton.

I bet i wouldnt either... This is funny, im not going to debate this sequencer difference thats been debated many times, knock yourself out on finding out many other opinions on here homie.

I will say this, when you are producing, and you create something with quantize on, I can tell the relaxation of the percussion in my drums, compared to other sequencers that i have used, IMO. You cant tell how someone created anything if you werent there, you dont know what sequenccr, only that producer who made it knows if it was what he was going for, i can only tell you if its hot to me or not.

Thats like buying a drum set or piano, as a musician, most will have their seperate taste, you know what you hear, you know what you like, and you know what you want, either thats it, or its not.

Yes, i reported this as well... But this is only in Version 2.0 that we have been experiencing this... at least with MIDI, but no one can seem to give the Techs an exact instructions on how to recreate it, at least they claim they cant. But even with the MPC 5000 when im playing something with it by it self, the drums are still not the same as if you were letting another sequncer lay it down, but again, it all depends on the person, everyone has their own flavor.

I use both and I would rather sequence on the MPC. You guys got it twisted. When people talk about timing we also

mean the initial programming feel. There is no latency in the MPC. Even if you hit all the notes correctly on a

computer sequencer sometimes it still doesnt catch right. I can shift notes later, earlier, change swing settings, turn

off quantize, etc... without touching a mouse. Oh yeah song mode in Ableton is weak...

I dont doubt you guys are having problems with the GUI. Let me get something straight, you guys have a program

playing and you change the program while the sequencer is playing?

I will upload a movie tomorrow on how changing from one program to another (in OS2.0) slows down the Gui but also gives audible hickups in the audio , I can re-create this behaviour any time (just load 30 mb of samples, make a sequence then while playing the sequence go to the 'program' field and turn the jogwheel to select the next program)

After you make this video, please post it in the Bug Thread for the Akai guys, so they can fix the issue, Thanks Seiko

all thats apart of sequencing in the MPC!!! but you can do the rest of this as well in other sequencers... but its just that feel that i prefer

I uploaded a small Movie how my MPC reacts when scrolling through different Programs (with 64 samples each) while a sequence is running (only 30 MB of samples loaded, 192MB installed).
I just sequenced a 4x4 beat so it will be clear that the scrolling
1) locks up the Gui
2) timing/sync is completely lost !

This is behaviour in V2.0, 1.2 is reacting much better.

yea... mine does that as well... my timing and sync doesnt get off until MIDI comes into play
