Me too.

It sounds a bit messy on some of the YouTube vids I've seen, but there's plenty of scope with it.

Yeah, there are many messy vids by EDM and tekkno geeks who show off their feature wankery lol
I've read parts of and skipped through the Octatrack manual and watched the Elektron Users board on the OT's possibilities before I pulled the trigger. That thing can do way more than what can be seen in most of those feature jerk-offs. Also I'm not so much into the kind of music most of the OT's users seem to be generating... I'm really looking forward to using it in a "next-level golden age hip hop" context in conjunction with my 5K, Emax I and a couple of VIs.

That's what's up otobot.

Ok I wrote most of this in the other OctaThread too.

..., the Octatrack is off the hook!
Like I said..., it's like a sample molesters wet dream come true. Don't go by the mediocre videos on YT.

The last two days I had some time to mess around with the unit and slowly get into it's deep functionality.
It's perfect for remixing and completely rearranging your tracks but also great for starting off new beats fresh in the box with drums, vinyl samples, synth sounds, whatever.. (there's a way for 'buildin' your synth via single cycle samples.. haven't tested yet).

8 tracks doesn't sound like much, but you can put like all the drums on one track and create your complete drum beat on this one track. Also the parameter locks are fvckin amazing for variations. Each stepp can have it's own setting for Play (including retrig), Amp (volume, pan, attack, decay, etc.), LFOs (can modulate almost all targets), Effect1 , Effect2... Each step can be micro timed, so putting in swing and getting a humanized feel is easy.

Unsing the crosfader to blend between "scenes" (totally different settings for the corresponding tracks) is the sh1t!!
Assigning all the fine tuning is really hands on and eeeeasy. It's mad fun working with this unit.

Triggless triggs are like parameter locks, but don't need the sample to be triggered. You can define any place in the running sample and change all of it's sound settings like with the help of parameter locks.

It's perfectly capable of producing any sample heavy genre, Hip Hop included. I'm gonna try some Boom Bap next haha...
Not as easy as with an MPC to get your ish swingin, think like in a DAW where you manually move notes to place them where you want them. But way beyond the MPC in sampling, sample mangling, creating variations and performing live.

Since I highjacked my own thread with overwhelming love for another machine, I gotta say this:
I still LOVE my MPC 5K!

Yeah if you already have a MD UW, some of the OctaTricks I mentioned should be possible with that afaik. The Octa brings the UW feature to the next level and has the triggless trigs (not sure if the MD UW has that), streaming from CF, flex machine, recording by trig, generally more sampling, playback and manipulation capabilities, the scenes crossfader, etc.
How do you like the MD UW, do you use it much? If you like it very much you should really try the Octa. Maybe from a dealer with return policy. You could also try it in a shop, but there wouldn't be enough time to really get to know what the Octa has to offer.. it's really deep and some of the functions are not labelled for use with the function modifier and more or less hidden. Those functions are descibed in the manual.

You really live on a boat?

Machinedrum is a cool box.Its a bit digital sounding and benefits from mixing with other equipment but its easy to get interesting stuff going.Ive got to work with it more to understand it completely tho.Its very different to the mpc but thats not such a bad thing.I tried the oktatrack in my local shop and preceded to loose all sound it was a frustrating experience. But so was the md at first so obviously it can only get better.Might just splash out on the ot and see what happens.Been toying with the idea since i heard about it a year ago.Yeah i live on a boat which is right now full of music gear.Driving me nuts actually. But its an interesting enviroment to make music in.I work on stuff all night and get no greif from the nieghbours.Just floating around making strange sounds ha ha

No irony.. the 5000 still gets overwhelming love from me. I didn't buy the the Octatrack to replace but to complement my MPC 5000. The Octa ain't another MPC but entirely a different machine.

You're a moderator of this board. Stop provoking hate. Be constructive.

Steady on old boy.

I pointed out the irony of your wandering thread, where was there any hate on my part?

Dont be surprised to find this thread moved if it's not going to be about the 5000.

Why dont you start a thread about the Octo-thingy, you obviously have more to say about that...

The making fun about the situation was already there in my original post which you took out of context.
I'm trying to contribute in regards to the MPC 5000 whenever I find the time and also help out people with their questions if you haven't noticed. I'm being constructive in most of my postings here...

Why don't you stop trying to derail this thread any further and we move on with some more 5000 love?

[Octathreads outside of this topic and section will be posted soon...]

So fellas, any more cool ish you've found (out) in regards to the MPC 5000 ?
