Press the stop button 3 times and this will stop stuck notes.

I'm well aware of that tip, but this is not a "stuck note" situation. I'm talking about pressing F5 to play while browsing through folders. The little meter that shows up will freeze at times, and you'll be stuck on that even after the file is finished playing.

yeah. The stop button helps that as well.

Press Synth-button (use an empty synth setting), make sure, that VCO 1 and VCO 2 have a volume level of > 0, choose different waveforms and/or pitch differently so you can distinguish them. Now add VCO 3 with white noise or something else recognizable. Finally enable R-Mod (Ring Modulator) -> VCO 3 disappears. It makes absolutely no sense to remove VCO 3 when 1 and 2 are Ring Modulated.

I also recognized a hanging ENV1 when modulating VCF (choose negative modulation). Turning the filter's cutoff to 100 and pressing a key causes the ENV1 to trigger and turn down cutoff. But when pressing the next key (no glide nor legato) EVN1 still hangs on cutoff and you hear a damped sound instead of 100% open and a delayed damp. This happens only from time to time and I need to load and delete various synth presets. And it's only with negative ENV1->VCF(Cutoff) modulation.

Will check this one out. Thanks!

after getting my first mpc5k replaced because it had problems accessing the RAM expansion I was a little nervous using the new machine... all went well for a couple of weeks but now I'm getting serious errors costing me hours of work..

I'm trying to reorganise the drum kits you get free on the hard disk, arranging into categories instead of seperate kits... when I went to save my new programs (to CF card) I get an 'invalid name' error message for one of the files... then when trying to load the program that contained the sample with the error, I get another error message '(VEng) No return from'... Now the mpc contains no programs or samples and shows 0.1kb of free memory in the 'load' page. I tried it a few more times and the program file is permanently corrupted!!!....

Because now I couldnt isolate which samples were in that corrupted program (the folder had all the new programs I was working on in it) I've had to go through all the kits again, allocating samples to the 'new' program.. (This time I took backups on the hard disk when I got to the problem sample).. when trying to save again I get the same 'invalid name' error - this time on another sample... now I get two error messages - '(VEng) no return from Recieve Init'... then '(VEng) No response after Recieve Init' then locks up completely!!!.. >reboot< Trying to load the offendingg program now does nothing... no programs or samples are loaded - the file is corrupted again.....

Apologies to going on a bit here - but I needed a place to rant... I've been a supporter of Akai since the S1000 and love the mpc system (upgraded from the mpc 1k) but the instability and software issues of the 5k are starting to make me think.... I don't want to be worrying every time I save a file - is it gonna mess up my program!!?!? Also when loading the 'afro Kit 1' from the HD I get an error message and the program doesn't work - this has happened on both the 5k's I've had so I guess its a fault with the file they are putting on the HD?? has anyone else had this problem??

A few software bugs I've noticed:

1. Using Copy and Replace... the replace works fine if you only do 1 copy but any extra copies are merged not replaced..

eg.
Bar 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
Tr1 x x x x x x x x
Tr2 y y

Copy/Replace Tr 2 to track 1 at bar 1, 4 copies - you end up with

Bar 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
Tr 1 y y xy xy xy xy xy xy

2. Using the Pad transpose function doesn't do anything - but if you go back into the menu and leave the 'destination' pad (on the right) the same (it remembers the last entry from the first attempt) and change the 'source' pad (on the left) it now works - but as soon as you change the 'destination' pad it doesn't work - you have to do the process twice and let it remember the value on the right... wierd huh?

When you copy a track the midi channel isn't copied with it.

When you delete a track the midi channel stays there.

When you use the track move feature, all the midi channel settings don't move at all- this can really cause a big headache with lots of midi channels controlling my synths/outboard now not on the right track!!...

Gith, thanks for your posts. Will check them out and put them on the bugtracker if they are not there already.

Gith, when you name your programs and samples, are you using any special characters (. < ! @ # $ % ^ & *) in the file names?
By Gith Mon Dec 22, 2008 3:02 am
The names of the samples were those already on the free HD samples, I did not name them myself... from memory these both started with an underscore '_' _HIZ-HAT and _NARE_04 from the 'Analog Brain Kit'- on the seconds try the _HIZ-HAT sample seemed to save fine...
The new program name has hyphens '-' in it.. but other programs with the hyphen in it have saved ok... anyway it was the sample names that gave the 'Invalid Name' error...

In the end I just bypassed the 'Ananolg Brain Kit' and went on to the next one - after re-sorting the samples into my programs these all seemed to save ok with no hassles..

Thanks,

Gith

Hi Gith, thanks for the reply. It would be *very* helpfull if you could reproduce this bug and give a step by step description. I'll try myself too now I know the drum programs name but you probably know better how you achieved this. If this is a bug, than it is a nasty one that should be solved.

Your other entries: The bar copy thing is a known bug, the other (midi channels) is a good one. Entered this in the tracker.
Thanks again!

SCD>> I'll try to recreate the error with corrupted programs when I get the chance and get back to you... PS: remember the problem with transposing pads mentioned before - add this to the bug list if its not already there.. thanks..

Noticed a couple of bugs relating to the TRIM mode and LOOP page:

1. When you go to TRIM mode from PROGRAM mode it goes to the currently selected
sample as expected. If you then change sample (scroll with the data wheel)
and select the LOOP (f2) page, when you select TRIM (f1) again it goes back
to the original sample you started with, not the current sample you are
editing. With a lot of samples loaded it can be really frustrating trying
to find where you were.

2. In 'PROGRAM' mode select 'sample 1'

Go to 'TRIM' mode

Select LOOP (f2)

Go to 'PROGRAM' mode and select 'sample 2'

Select 'TRIM mode - remembers you were on the 'LOOP' page but shows 'sample 1' !

Select TRIM (f1) - jumps to 'sample 2' !

theres obviously something wrong with how it remembers which sample your working on....

UPDATE I just noticed a new bug.

DECAY is not working with the q link faders.

I love to put open hats on decay with the q slider to create a open and closed hat in real time..

I sure how Akai Fixes this next update!
