hello all,

im new here and i am having some trouble with trying to get this thing to work for my specific need.

i am in a band that does excessive drum sampling. in an attempt to make our live show more exciting we're nixing our pre-programmed drum tracks and triggering my drums.
we're using the mpc as our main brain.

the process that i have found best for my needs has been dumping the samples into the mpc and then , from there, creating sample programs that correspond to each song. so, if you can imagine this in your head, the samples for song x are all grouped together in a sample program and are assigned to their respective pad. the mpc is linked via midi to a midi drum trigger converter that assigns these patches to their respective drums.

what im having trouble with is switching sample programs. for the life of me i cannot go from one to another. can anyone possibly tell me how to do this?

also, since we have loops here and there, im finding it might be a good idea to sequence each song as a "song" on the mpc and run the loops in the sequence so i dont have to trigger them endlessly. i also want to do this "song" thing so that i can work a click track in for myself. how can i create a click and assign it only to my headphones and not to the house speakers?
has anyone played with an mpc live before? does anyone know what im talking about?

to me, this all seems like a fairly easy task. an mpc 5000 should be able to do this kind of thing. any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can do this by sending the program changes from your midi device to the MPC

Unfortunatly you can t do that

But you can re create a sort of click using a sample then route it to one of the I/O

Mr.Sheed - I guess you missed that being so quick to make a joke. He plays live. For him the house is the room he plays in. You OTOH play in a room located in a
house.

ahmedcity - Make a metronome with a stick click(or other sound) and run from one of the I/Os into the monitor board. You'll be able mix the custom met with the mixed output with the feed to your cans. The mixed out running to the FOH board won't have the click present at all so there's no worry about the crowd hearing the click/met. ** You can also give yourself vocal cues along with the met using this routing scheme.

thanks a lot, guys. i figured it all out! i am now sequencing loops. i have added a hi hat at every 1/4 note and send it through one of my analog outs into our monitor board. we all can hear the hi hat "click" through our in-ears now.

i appreciate the feedback. any other advice you all want to give would be appreciated as well.

You can't change programs with Midi PC (Program Change) but can change Sequences. So all you have to do is create different sequences with the necessary program. Emitting a Program Change with 0 selects Sequence 01, 1 selects Sequence 02 and so on (if you named your sequences this way, loading order is important).
Another way would be to use it as a Multitimbral Sound Module. Set Midi/Sync->Active Track Receive Channel to "Multi". Now you can load multiple programs to one sequence and assign them to different tracks. Choose a midi channel for every track (Main Window, lower right corner) and there you go. All you need to do for switching is to change Midi Channel at your drum trigger. Not so nice: Only 16 channels/cable accessible (A01-A16 or B01-B16, need to re-plug your drum trigger for the opposite channel's cable).
But the best idea I came across: morph a master keyboard into a drum trigger modul. With 61 keys you could hit 61x4 (Layers!!!) samples, e.g. with Layer Switching by velocity. And it'd look great if you sit in between 61 drum pads...only one program necessary. (Also a laser-supported satellite came into my mind, but I'd say targeting is not that easy, when you're a) inside a house and b) living people meander in front of the laser interface).

Proven wrong - either the drum signal to opt outs (and to stage mixer) and click to headphones (of MPC) or click to opt outs (and to own monitors) and main to stage mixer.

How about buying one, unpacking it and some *hands on your MPC* sessions, before guessing, tomazzzi ;-)?
