Which synthesizer do yall think fits the 5000 the best. As far as easy hook up(MIDI) and great sounds at good price. I was looking at a Alesis but man them things are HIGH new. I want a good one but will have to settle for a used one since I can only spend about $200-$250. I don't need anything too major, just a dope synth with some fresh sounds. My birthday's tommorow and my Mom and Dad are coming up from KY to spend the weekend with me. Dad said he would take me around to look at synths for my B-Day, but I think I'll just settle for one off e-bay rather than letting him spend a chunk of change he doesn't have on a new synth. Thanks for your opinions guys!

Get on eBay and see if you can find a used Korg MicroKorg. It's got heavy sounds in it and has a "vocoder" setting that is pretty slick. They go for $4oo new, so you might be able to find one used in your price range.

In a similar vain (whilst i consider my options, hardware or software) what would be the best synth for sound design? i feel like limiting myself with an mpc and synth which is very capable of manipulating sound (maybe an input to send mpc samples to) and also generating extensive sounds.

Get the biggest baddest, most expensive synth you can find and be happy.

I guess you didn't sell your MPC 5000, glad that you must be digging it now!

As for a synth, you could go for a sound module, such as the yamaha motif rack, triton rack... if you're interested in using sampled synthesis (though you do have an MPC, and could do this yourself with enough time), or you can get into digital synthesis with something like the Access Virus (the C model can be gotten fairly cheap) that will offer you oscillators, envelopes and filter.

I guess I'm not sure what kind of synth you're looking for though? Maybe you just need a keyboard, there is already a decent synth built in to the MPC. You could pick up a Novation 25/37 or whatever and work with that.

If you don't really know what you're looking for though, the Microkorg is definitely sweet!

That was one that came to mind really quick.

The "best" is always asked but people aint gonna go out and REALLY get an Oasys. So i don't know why they continue to ask about the "best". "Best" is actually personal imo

Considering the MPC 5000 synth is a virtual analog i wouldn t go for a microkorg ( VA too )

Maybe a fm synth like yamaha DX7 or SY35 can do the job for your budget ( max 200 each )

They are great sounding & cheap

Must have for me

i wouldnt choose the microkorg either, its not multitimbral, not for a first synth or sound module.

You could buy an Alesis Fusion. They're going for cheap and they're great for sound design. I'm sure this would compliment the MPC5000 very well.

??? Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the 5k's synth derived from the Fusion?

If you have money to burn the Alesis Andromeda is rather nice! I'm not too sure what you can get for $200 though...

yeah, . ..i got one of those new moog little phatty stage II's.

so its got the pure anologue, although monophonic. ...and at first i was mainly getting it for the bass sounds, ...which it does very well at, ...but the moog doesn't have the sine wave, so many times i still use the MPC's synth because of the sine waves for those smooth rolling yet still phat bass sounds, ....i feel like my moog is turning more into a 'lead' synth.

with the moog followed up with the mpc's effects, like tape delay, ...it works out quit nice. ...plus the moog can transmit wordclock, so i can sync the moogs LFO's to the MPC's midi clock, like 1/4 notes or 1/8 notes and such.

its an interesting combination, ...but i'm still in the mode of exploring the connection, ...the VA in the 5000 is more of a synth that is meant to cover all bases, ...while the MOOG is more like a real instrument, like a piano, or a rhodes, or a clavinet, or an organ. .....its the best at what it does, ...but you have to 'want' what it does everytime you use it, .....you can't necessarily make it 'bend' to your knees, you have to work around it.

...the VA seems to work more 'with me and around what i've already done' than the moog does.

if i could start over, ...i'd say keep the MPC VA and either upgrade to a bigger badder VA like nord wave or virus TI, ......or get a sound synth like fantom or a motif or something like that.

-just my thoughts.
