I know it is early in the game...but is there anyone here that has attempted to customize there MPC 5000 by swapping out the pads for a different color or changing the hard drive for a larger capacity drive?

well i've got a 250GB hard drive in mine, for what its worth, so I save pgms/beats (for now) to HD until i get some of them 16GB compactflash's, and i just use the 2GB compactflash i have now for storing sample chops for (near) future use.

of course, everything is backed up via external drive.

Yeah, this thread is timily. I intend to change my current HD to a 250GB or 500GB HD. But before doing that I would like to know:

Is there any special aspect to care about before changing or it is just as easy as changing computer hard drives??

Thank you

I would be interested in reading about how BxJaze opened up his MPC 5000 to install a new hard drive. A tutorial with pictures would be a good resource for MPC 5000 users.

What type of drive is in the MPC5K - is it the same spec as the 2500 (2.5" IDE).

Or is the 5K using a SATA drive?

I'd be interested in upgrading the drive, but would like to establish the specification.

300gb Hard Drive...

300gb sounds great, but I need to know the drive specification - i may need to crack open my 5K and take a look.

"The MPC5000's virtual analog synth eliminates need for external analog synth modules or buggy software based synthesizers" wtf Makes it sound like softsynths are cheapy things.

Related to this, and since no one has yet responded to a similar question in a different thread -- I wonder if anyone has successfully replaced their hard drive with a solid state IDE drive? As you might know, the SSD has no moving parts, and therefore is the most reliable storage on the market. And since the 5k units are constantly banged on and often (I assume) transported, I would think there are quite a few disk failures about to happen.
