...about 8 track HD recorder...

...has anyone else found this to simply be really slow compared to virually every single form of competition there is, both hardware and software?

i mean, it takes forever just for the wavforms to come into view, or to scroll right or left, ...for being a small screen to zooming in and out, ...and sometimes the computer in my 5000 simply has to take a moment to think about things.

...this part of my 5000 really sucks....

...i *LOVE* the synth, .....i *LOVE* the sampler/midi sequencer.

but i am finding it harder and harder to use the HD recorder like i want to, ...i mean, i'm searching to find the *flow* but i'm starting to believe its simply not there.

i might be forced to by a new computer and get a software DAW to record into.

how can those be *SO* easy and the 5000 be so 'simple' and so 'slow and counter to the -flow- that is desired by all'.

If your gonna do that, you may as well get yourself an MPC1000/25000. There's plenty of good shareware synths and recorders you can use on the computer.
I thought about getting the 5000 when the idea was still new, but I think they should have put a 16 track recorder inside the machine over the 8 track. 8 track recorders have been outdated since the mid nineties, and while the idea is good, I just don't think it's enough. 32 tracks can be limiting at times, but for a drum-machine, I think 16 would be great. Any machine that I buy today would have to replace some equipment that I already have. If I got the 5000, I wouldn't get rid of my Novation, or the pro-tools; makes no sense for me to purchase it, but if I was just starting out and didn't have a recorder or a synth, it would be a good purchase...with a lot to learn

All the latest highend MPCs have hard drives installed. The MPC 5000 gives you 8 tracks of hard disk recording that is unavailable on any other MPC currently. This is in addition to the 64 RAM based audio tracks (continuous sample tracks). Does a drum machine/sampler need more than this? That is the question you will have to ask yourself. My opinion is no. But for someone wanting more, why stop at requesting 16 tracks, which could also be considered "outdated" in terms of standalone hard disk recorders. Why not 24? Why not 48? The MPC 5000 is not a stand alone hard disk recorder. It is a drum machine/sampler that just happens to have 8 tracks of hard disk recording as a feature. This function is far from useless.

The only thing that's specific in the manual (page 67) is that these tracks can be exported in 16 or 24 bit.

But the 5K has a 16 bit sample engine so it must be converting 16 bit up to 24 bit resolution during export, if the 24 bit export option is selected.

Unless I'm not understanding things very well?
