I really tried hard to find a way to use the fancy Q-Links in a sort of live setup but I can't figure out how to assign all 12 controllers in a good way. Normally I use at least 4 tracks, one for the basic rhythm, some supporting rhythm section, a bass and a lead track - 4 tracks at all in one sequence. In addition to the multi track layout - I'd say the 5k goes beyond one-track-drum-triggering - I use external midi equipment. Let's say 2 other synths playing the bass and lead part.
As already mentioned in the feature requests thread I realized, that Q-Links can only be assigned within one track - for the whole track (maybe one slider for volume) or a single sample/pad (maybe cutoff/resonance). But now I'm standing on stage and think: Why not fading one track out while fading the other in. Could be done with the TrckMix - easy. But what if I intend to do the same trick with filter cutoff?
(Finally the question: ) Did anyone find a way to solve that issue without selecting another track in Main View? (Usually I use the Mute- and Sequence-screens a lot, where you can mute tracks/pads or switch sequences. Switching back to Main, selecting a track, back to Mute-screen - needs too long.)

And for the very smart: It'd be possible to sample all the data and put it into a single program or add hard disk tracks for more complicated/evolving synthesizer sounds - sampling is not enough and hd-tracks require a song and while playing a song you can't switch anything anymore in any screen. Recording controller moves is also not possible for me - 128 sequences is the upper limit and one sequence for any possible controller action - way too much sequences.

Hi Onkobu,

i've just started using the MPC5k for live set-up too - the Q-Links seemed like a great idea, but like you say are pretty limited... i haven't worked out how to get the most out of them yet, but only had the machine for a few weeks - will keep trying and let you know!
i'm rigging up external midi gear too - MC505 as slave to MPC master - which i got working fine, but i also want to play my Novation Bass Station and record sequences from it with the MPC. I can't find how to assign midi channel etc - can you help?
Cheers,
Marcus
