Some of the folks here on the forum said purchase the Roland, it's a more equipped machine. I am now thinking I will return it and get the MPC 5000. Does the MPC have a decent and speedy processor? Does it import samples and allow you to play them across the pads assigning parts to different outputs?
I am thinking the Roland MV 8800 is being phased out.
Thanks.
Hey PJ - I'd say do your homework and try both machines - there's actually a lot to consider here - there's features and specification also feel and workflow.
What's right for you will likely be wrong for the next guy - I'd definately say try both machines before making your final choice and pick the one you feel best suits your style.
I don't own an MV, but I did demo one, as I used to really dig Roland gear. (since moved to yamaha for my synths and Akai for my sampling needs)
I'd previously used the MPC1000 and the MPC2500 and the thing that hits you immediately about the MPC is that the workflow is second to none. It's just all there laid out a few clicks and your chopping samples and laying down grooves.
Everything feels intuitive and fast. I recall making a few beats with those earlier MPCs right out the box and then opening the manual later to learn the lower level functions.
That workflow is still there on the new flagship MPC 5000 - it's just fast and a joy to use.
I found the MV didn't have anywhere near the same slick workflow although I'll admit that perhaps that's because I was already used to working with MPCs (although a common complaint on the MV is the labour intensive workflow and having to dig deep through menus to find what you need - sometimes even for the simple things). Maybe Roland will put that right in their next model.
I'm not gonna even attempt to advise on the right machine for you - try them both and YOU decide.
Good luck dude!
