I'm about to throw this thing off a cliff.......

it doesnt matter-it seems totally random, but I havent been able
to save and reload ANYTHING without issues-when i build a program from
samples i've recorded from the inputs i get save errors-when i save all memory,
some programs(randomly)will not reload correctly-if i go into the folder and load
each prog on its own,and all the mids on their own,there is always something wrong-
when i spend 3 days onna track,save it 20 times into 20 different folders on hard disk,and then try to sample the outputs , i can only get 7 seconds sample time.... so i need to save, reboot and reload....SHIT OUTTA LUCK.......3 days work gone- so now in order to
do a track, i need to write out a list mapping all my programs, save all samples,programs,and sequences to my PC as soon as they are created so i dont lose
them-----
I have owned the 4000 and the 1000 with JJ- and thought nukai might have improved the beta testing on these things...WRONG-
btw-using 1.02 and no extra memory.

have you tried saving to a cf card and reloading it?

How big are the samples within your programs i.e. how much RAM is remaining when you are trying to resample the outputs?

You mentioned it's only giving you 7 secs right? Your not trying to record a fixed length sample are you (perhaps 10secs?)

Also, perhaps you should create a hard disk track and master your mix to that instead of trying to resample it within RAM?

Just a thought worth mentioning before you actually throw it from the cliff

Which cliff are you gonna throw it off of? Can you wrap it in bubblewrap before throwing it over?

try this:
load a drumset-get a beat going-while beat plays,record something into the analog inputs-do that a couple of times.until you have,say,3 samples-trim them etc-build a program with them-then try to save the program you made-or save entire memory-into a new folder on hard disk-much of the time i get an internal error on saving, but mostly i get a memory error on attempted reload-
so to avoid losing it, now i leave the machine on all week,but then i get weird lockups like not being able to adjust the sample record length-
hope this explains it better......
should i just go and move this to bug reports?

Are you 'resampling' the drum-set you have playing and audio coming from the analog inputs to create a new sample?

no-
the drums arent being recorded. I am recording from synths into the mpc analog
inputs,in time with the sequence (nothing but external synth going in) -once trimmed,the incoming synth samples are
put into newly created programs,and integrated into the sequences.
so, as i build the track,layering in more synths using that method,it seems the programs i make with those sounds are the ones most likely to become corrupted on save/load??
I remember in the early JJ release on the 1000,they claimed akai had a hard disk format issue that they( the JJ), had corrected (requiring you to re-format the internal drive using the JJ os. maybe this is a problem on the 5000? it seems to have similar symptoms.
I dont have a cf card,but am going to get one this weekend when i have some time,and see if saving to that makes a difference-
any other thoughts on this??

Are you using continuous sample tracks or direct recording function?

I recently came across the same problem, but it has to do with "Overwrite" function of time stretch editing. Sometimes, when I timestretch some sample I already played (load sample, assign to pad, play once, go to Trim->Edit->Time Stretch->Overwrite) and try to save that (preferrably Mem Dump) I get some "Invalid Format" error. The sample itself gets named "?<samplename>" (starting with a question mark) and I can't hear anything, when pressing the pad. I already posted this some weeks ago on the 1.02 bug thread. Such a broken sample causes the sample selection in Program Mode to get screwed up, you can turn the dial clockwise infinitely, normally it stops at the last available sample.

Sollution-> Avoid either playing or overwriting.

some of the tracks are continuous, some are not-
is there a bug with continuous tracks?

I tried to doing what you wrote in this thread. I couldn't produce it. If this is a bug, give a step by step guide to produce your problem in the bug thread posted at the top of the forum.

There was a bug like this on the 2500 when I first got it (before the JJ upgrade) You cannot overwrite files. Instead of overwritting files make sure you delete the old files before you save. This should work. Let me know.

Let me know when & what cliff your going to throw it off of, I'll be there at the bottom to catch it with my trampoline


All seriousness tho I'm glad I'm seeing these issues on the 5000 cuz I'm bout to have one here in a couple weeks & now I know what to expect.
