Did you buy it new and if so how long have you had it?

Did the fault just start or since you bought it?

Did you format the HDD using the 5K's format function within Disk Mode?

Do you have the CD Drive installed also?

I was going to ask what your 'no quibble' return period was - normally 30 days - but you said the dreaded 'Ebay' word - suppose it depends if the seller was a reputable dealer or an independant seller. As it was purchased brand new, then I'd have wanted a new 'replacement' or a 'full refund' rather than a repair. Did you speak with the seller?

Just ruling that one out.

Was going to suggest removing that in case of any conflicts - but obviously not applicable.

Just trying to look at all the facts bro - see if I could help. :D

Well the seller i bought it off said he'd take it back and get it fixed but that would involve him sending it to akai so he said it might be quicker to just send it straight to akai.

Thanks for you help man though

I thought i'd update you on the problem i had with the hard drive, well i decided to bite the bullet last night and take it out of the 5k and connect to my pc. i couldnt contemplate letting my mpc go for repair for weeks. anyway i formattted it replaced it, and today it appears to be working a treat, before it didnt even make anynoise at all apart from an occasional whine, now it sounds like its working properly.

That is strange. You shouldn't have to remove it and connect to your PC. You should be able to connect usb and format it from the PC in that fashion.

yeah but i formatted it via the usb and that didnt help at all
