Hardware Question - 5000 LCD

Ok I notice some very fine scratches on my 5000 LCD. They are in the plastic lens. You can't see them when the unit is on but when it is off and in the right light you can see them. I know I am being a perfectionist but has anyone ever replaced the LCD lens? Am I being too much of a twit? Has anyone else ever scratched their LCD? What are you supposed to wipe the LCD with to clean it?

The LCD shipped with a platic covering. I haven't removed mine but it looks as if it may start to peel. I might have to find something to replace it so I don't scratch it once it is removed.

You know, I used to worry about such things (with mp3 players, phones, etc.), but have owned enough devices over the past few years to come to the conclusion: by the time it's actually annoyingly scratched, or realistically, slightly scratched (I take very good care of my gear), the device in question will be several hardware revisions obsolete anyway.

IOW, focus on the music, 'cause an MPC isn't an heirloom-grade investment.

Oh, and I'd use a microfibre cloth.

In the past I replaced the data encoder, pads, power switch and lcd on my MPC2000XLs that wore out. Should I sell them and get one that hasn't been repaired. Yes. Because I got the 2500.

MPC's are made to be worked not pampered. Having to fix them is a sign of using them since they are built to last. That said broken parts and small scratches are two totally different things. If the lcd cover was cracked I would replace it but, a small hair line scratch. No way.

Hey PJ glad to see your still rocking that 5K! You raise a good point for a lot of people who have removed the factory fitted screen protection sheet. I have to admit that's the first thing I always do....lol I hate seeing bubbles and peeling on my screen to, so i usually rip that sucker straight off. For your info, a lot of the larger computer stores sell anti-glare laptop screen protectors which as you can imagine are easily cut to the size of the 5K's LCD. The result is good protection against surface scratches and reduced glare on the screen. Hope that helps spark some creativity.

Hey thanks folks. You folks are absolutely right, why worry about hairline scratches. When the unit is on, you can't see them at all. I going to get back to why I bought it, to USE IT! I have to quit being such a fanatic about cosmetic issues. I am so concerned about damaging my gear I don't enjoy it. That is changing right now!

Thanks folks again, you guys are great. I want to learn how to setup either a You Tube video or Facebook or some other type of website, maybe a blog to post some snippets of what I am doing. Don't laugh, I know I am old and it won't be as good as what you folks are doing but it is a start. I can get the beat going still at my age.
