y not use cf cards as ram(can this be done on a mpc)

like on the beat kangz beat thang.imagine no load times of your favorite sample kits this would be truly inspirational .no longer having load times break your creative flow.Wow this would be great on a mpc product.this would end the whole 4000 vs 5000 memory issue.do u think it could be done...........o.s.2.5????lol

On the 5k you can stream 8 audio tracks simutaneously from the internal 80gb Hard drive with dedicated HD track mixer and automation. The length of the tracks are limited only by the available space on the Hard Drive.

What would be the advantage of being able to stream from the 2gb CF card on the 5K?

Some questions on that thang:-

What storage options are available, 2x16gb sd cards?, does it have an internal HDD?

What is the release date?

What is the advantage of the customisable grill, looks kinda toyish to me?

What are some of the key features that the thang has over the MPC?

Why would you want to stream audio from a CF card when you have an 80G hard drive (250G in mine) at your disposal that surely is more efficient at streaming audio....24 bit at that...and yes 8 tracks worth that I've have used to record hours, yes hours of live audio? Sometimes I wonder about the thought processes that go on on this forum.

lol...yeah, do you think we're gonna see a BLING-BLING upgrade for the 5K anytime soon? Maybe a little chrome spinning rim for the data-wheel, or a carbon-fiber whale-fin spoiler and neon 'Dirty South' sun visor for the LCD display?

That thang looks like it's been designed to appeal to the 3 to 12 year-old (Buzz Lightyear) market, hope there's no sharp edges on it! Hehe!

I think what was meant is that the Beat Thingy (as well as Roger Linn's Vaporware) use CF cards like RAM..at least this is how I understood it. So you don't have to actually load any files. You can edit them or play them directly from the CF card as if they were already loaded to RAM. Is this accurate?

^^^ Yeah, was just reading some more specs on it, think you're right. One thing i was looking for is how many voices of polyphony they can achieve, couldn't see any spec on that, any idea?

I'm not sure about the workflow, sound quality or functionality, but that design can't be their final one surely? it really does look cheap and tacky IMO. I suppose beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

For sure..this is one of the ugliest things I have ever seen. I just can't take it seriously

yeah u got it !this would end the whole 4000 vs 5000 memory issue.plus it would be great to instantly have sounds available .(like a sound modual)

If that does happen.... I will buy a 5K right away. Just for the bling on the data wheel....

Only it doesn't because compact flash is media storage and RAM is Random Access Memory.... They can't really be interchanged... That is like saying hey I took my 1TB hard drive and turned it into RAM in my computer....

if there was a way for the mpc to read the card as a drive so it loaded it as the main drive,then you wouldnt have to load every sample seperatly*,,,but the question is,will the mpc's memory be big enough to read all the samples on the card it loads from,,,,,in order to do this,you would have to crack a "os" and figure out how to re-design it to make the mpc load from card instead of hard drive,,,,but then you would also have to have the "os" on the cards you use to boot the mpc..lot of work involved,but if you know someone whop designs the "os" then i suppose you could ask them how to make it boot from something external,,,just my 2 cents.
