Ableton Live 7 right here!(although I am Beta Testing Live 8 right now). I also have Logic Studio, but I really have not invested the time into it, since Live is just so good and so easy to use! I do want to learn Logic better though!

when I had the 5k ( just re-ordered it again), I was using the motif xs8 with mLAN, Cubase aI4 and a pretty powerful PC. No need for a mixer....

Cubase Ai was dope because all the parameters of the motif was controlled from within. I could even tweak the presets from within cubase and the motif editor.

Hey Diegoeskryptic,

I saw that you used Cubase Ai4 and a Motif XS with your MPC5K. I also have the Motif XS (61 key) and I never really got into Cubase AI4, do you think its worth it for the controls inside for the XS? Here is my problem, I use Ableton Live and I love it! I also have Logic Studio, which I plan on learning more as time allows, I intend on using Logic for the instruments and for heavily involved mix's.

I guess what I am asking is, is there anything that I am really missing out on by not learning Cubase AI4? Thought maybe you could shed some light in the unknown for me, because the last thing I have time for is to learn another Computer based DAW!

Thanks A Ton!

I'm using protools 7.4 to edit the sequences, I find it a lot quicker and easier!
cheers

The only software program I know inside and out is FL studio which I used as a multi-tracker, effects unit and VST host.

I started using cubase only because it came with the motif and I wanted to give it a shot.

Cubase is easy on the surface. But there are a ton of features underneath that require some quality time, like any thing else. I haven't touched cubase 5, so I can't speak on that

We use logic 8 in the studio. They really made Logic 8 more user friendly compared to logic 7 which was a mad house. For an all-around DAW... I say learn logic... 6-7 years from now, IT WILL BE INDUSTRY STANDARD.

I sync the 5k with protools 8 and/or Live
from 5k midi in/out A i drive the PC and Midisport 8x8 (on the pc serial port)-
midi B goes to the akai Z4 sampler- midi C to the yamaha TX16w sampler-
midi D to the Emu Esi2000 sampler-
Emu Xboard 61 controller to midi in B-
midisport has kawai k4r, Matrix 6, and matrix 1000 synths, the akai s612 sampler- plus roland R8m drum module.

all pretty old school and noisy (except the z4 and 5k)- the midi is all tight with the direct connect to the 5k seq-
the audio from all samplers goes direct into protools-or LIve-
protools 8 is kinda flaky on my systems- better on the vista laptop than XP tower- but i think it will get sorted out.

True that! I think your right in the fact that Logic will be the industry standard in a few years! I know a couple of cats who were really stoked to get Pro Tools 8 and they got it and think is better but still not to Logic's very high standard!

Thanks for the info though!

I have been using logic for about 8 years and in my eyes it is definitely the most efficient DAW for handling massive amounts of plug ins. I have switched to protools mostly because I use less inst plugs and more live instruments in my tracks. To this day there is no better Daw than protools to handle, edit, chop, time control RAW audio Than protools HANDS DOWN. Protools has become a industry standard for a reason, it wasnt because they made a janky DAW. I have to admit tthough, that they really slacked on midi development considering much of the market is now home studios where people run a bunh of soft synths etc...
