Go to the guitarcenter site and click on rebate banner
Then look for Akai brand .Oh,for those who want to protect their mpc u can get a warranty (2or3yr)For newbies/and those who don't want to take a chance on a mint condition 5k (used) that could have some hidden damage.
So if you can find a used 5k for $1500 W/warranty ???

$600.00 rebate if you purchase the mpc5000

Between 4/1/09-4/30/09.
U have until 5/15/09

I wonder if GC will match sam ash's price of $1999 AND still give the $600 rebate...probably not :(

That may get me to buy one to try out.

Nope! Already tried and they wouldn't do it. Best price is about $1750.00-$1800.00 new if you shop around.

I posted this on another thread, but will here since it pertains.
I too called GC about this and they said NOPE. That the unit would have to be bought for the MSRP ($2599) for Akai to honor the rebate.

BUT! I checked out the rebate...you can read it here:

http://images.guitarcenter.com/download ... 817351.pdf

and it says NOTHING about how much the mpc had to have been sold for...so, would this actually work? Nowhere in the fine print is there a stipulation about price paid so...

They lied about the Akai not honoring part but it can't work if they refuse to sell it too you for a lower price. My advice is to not buy from guitar center or affiliates since you can get the MPC new for that price or lower without the need to mail in a rebate.

Just curious, how do you know that Akai will honor it? The reason I ask if because I can get them to price match with Sam Ash's price of $1999.
Investing $1999 to get $600 back makes it a $1399 mpc 5000 which would be worth it to me. The problem with the rebate is, when you mail in the UPC code from the box, you may hit a snag with GC if you need to return it.

If you notice some dealers are doing the price reduction some are doing the rebate.
That could be an Akai controlled aspect based on when the dealer took stock on the units.
It could simply be them allowing dealers not to take a lost on some older stock they may have.
As mentioned the biggest problem would be getting a dealer to price match the $1999 if they aren't already offering it, since they are aware of what's going on.
You have to admit the $1999 is a grat price for a new (not refurb) 5k, especially considering the original list price.

I got mine over a month ago from Guitar Center for $1995. Guitar Center will match any price you find on the web (musician's friend, etc.) if you just print it out and take it to them. Any price excluding ebay, craigslist, etc....

That's not the question, the question is will they do a price match now that the rebate is out.
Price match = $1999
Rebate= $600
MPC cost after rebate = $1399

That's what people were trying to determine.

They (GC.com)will honor price match w/ dj-deal.com and
Zzounds etc. I got my second 5k for $1984.00 from
Dj deals price. Gc went to pricegrabber.com and match the
Price. So I don't .....know why they wouldn't honor the rebate.

The question about the rebate stemms from the fact that Akai has dropped the price on the 5k.
The difference between the old price and the new price is the same amount as the rebate, so it looks like Akai is doing a either or.
Since you have to submit the receipt and UPC it's easy for them to see what price was paid.

Right ^^^ and if you need to return the 5000, will you hit a roadblock since you've cut the UPC off the box?
If I knew I could get my money back if the rebate didn't work, I may give it a shot.
A $1399 5000 is pretty tempting...

Like I said, I tried and they would not do the price match. They said they can't since the rebate brings their price to the same so technically it's the same price. Not sure if that is considered false advertising or if they legally have the right but that is what they are saying.
