Hey so I am going quarter inch out to quarter inch input on the back of my mbox into the Line plug in. Then I had my DI/MIC setting on the mbox set to mic. Thought it would be the DI but it was working with the Mic one. So anyways when I had it going I had it set at a good level not clipping but it was still pretty hot. I got a lot of hiss and static type stuff. Do you think its the cable? Its an old Monster cable.... just wondering thought cause I dont got another one to test it out.

Ya bro I messed with it more. I have it goin into the line TRS input on the back of the mbox but I gotta have it set to the mic setting not the DI setting on the front for it to get any signal. I dont get noise if I leave like 25 percent head room. But when I compressed and turned up the output gain quite heavily I got a lot of noise but thats understandable. Is this how I am supposed to do it or no? Anyone got any advice for me goin into pro tools? And yeah I didnt really take offense to your comment cause I know youre tryin to help me but I am not all THAT new at this, I may not know everything but I got it to work. I am new to the MPC however, just had pro tools and my MPK for a while now so just been doin midi, not had much experience hooking up much more than that. So thanks for your help bro. Cause I know that the mic level is like -40 -60 db or dbu forgot whatever the 2 differences are and the line is at + 4 so it should be blowing my mic pre with what I do I guess but I dont know why it works how it does, I am not goin in through the XLR though so is that why it didnt blow it out you think? I dont know man like I said I dont know EVERYTHING.

Ok so heres something new I just discovered. I only can hear the hissing when the volumes turned up like passed half way on the mbox. I think maybe its just my mbox cause I remember it doing something similar a long time ago. Cause when I look at the meters in pro tools I see nothing.

Alright thanks a lot man. I will test it out. Hey bro do you know, just didnt wanna start a new thread cause I already did 2 and dont wanna piss people off. I dont know if I need to go get a flash card to get my samples from my computer onto the MPC and load them into a program. Can I do that from just connecting it to the computer USB and transfering them into a folder straight to the MPC's hard drive? You dont gotta explain the whole process to me if you dont want to I just want to know if that will work before I go buy one of the cards to figure it out. I have been reading the manual and learning a lot just havent gotten that far yet. When I tried updating the operating system it said I needed a flash card to put the update on and then install it but I wasnt sure about just for my samples. This is my first time ever on an MPC so thanks for workin with me man.

Yes you can! Well, unless you have the C.D/DVD burner installed on your 5K you can put them on a disc and then load them from your burner. And you should get a compact flash any way because you need it to update your O.S

Cool thanks Ray. I will get one of the cards but I just was tryin to wait til friday when i get my pay check cause I dont got a lot left after buyin the 5k. I called up guitar center and asked if they had anyone who knew about the MPCs and they said no.... darn idiots. I mean I dont know either so I guess I am one of the idiots but I just figured since theyre selling them they should know about them.

Man! I used to think the same thing about guitar centers employees. It's a hit or miss with them katz. Your at the right place as far as getting info about MPC's. Some where on this forum it talks about what brand of compact flash too. I think it's a Kingston that you should stay away from.
