Muting external MIDI tracks does not work

I use my MPC5000 as the main sequencer along with some hardware synths and Logic Pro 9. Logic is not synced to the MP, I merely use it as a plug-in host while composing.

While I was arranging a track this evening it occured to me that the Mute-Setting only seems to work for tracks that trigger the MPC. Tracks going out to Logic or my synths will keep sending MIDI even if they are on mute. Has anyone else experienced this?

has to be a setting, if I mute tracks with MIDI sending out to one of my modules, the track stops sending Midi...

What OS are you using? just to make sure that you are using 2.0

Thanks for your replies. I am using OS 2.0. I just checked again and recorded a sequence of four bars using a simple bass sound in Logic. Muting still does not work. But I just realized it only does not work with the tracks that trigger Logic. Tracks that trigger for example a Triton Extreme can be muted. I don't know what to make of this. There must be something I did not set right. Can't figure it out. You guys have any idea?

Edit: If I set the velocity to 1 for a track that triggers Logic it does what it should do: no sound.

If you drive your Triton, you actually record the notes on the MPC , right ?

I assume you make the midi sequence in Logic itselfthen not on MPC ?

What you say makes no sense , how can the MPC know wether it sends to Logic or Triton ? For MPC there is no difference at all. It does not send 'play the notes at 0 velocity' , what it does is : when you mute a track no midi is sent out at all.
So a track that contains midi, when you mute it, no notes go out, so nothing (no Logic, no synth) receives notes so does not sound.
If it is any setting and the TRiton works fine, then take the MIDI cable that works ok for the Triton and plug it into Logic.

yeah, thats a great way to troubleshoot it... then we can know if its the MPC or not

Hello seiko. No, I do not record any sequences in Logic. Like I mentioned before I do all of the sequencing on the MP5K. I merely use Logic as a plug-in host and let the MPC trigger Synths and Samplers inserted in Logic's instrument tracks. I never hit play or record in Logic at any time.

It actually does not make sense to me either, that's why I posted this thread This can't be a physically defective MIDI cable. Think about it, muting a track you would expect the MPC not to send MIDI data on the corresponding channel at all so it does not matter if the MIDI cable is transmitting correctly or not.

I believe I'm having the same issue. I did a beat on the MPC5K and I turned it into one long sequence to add pauses and I had no issue with the internal sounds on my 5K but with the tracks that I muted assigned to my my external module it totally ignored them when I went to play the track back to hear how it sounds.
