I know a lot of people are upset at Akai over the MPC5000 for various reasons. I was and still am one of those people...However, not everything about the MPC5000 is negative..so let's switch gears and talk about the good, positive aspects of MPC5000. What are some of the positive things about MPC5000? Let's start listing some...

As a 1000 user, the 8 track audio recorder is a draw because would be nice to do a beat then record the rap vocals
mix it/ master it in the box cause 8 tracks is enough for lead vocal, phrase doubles, adlibs hook, hook doubles 4 tracks for bussed beat stem mixes

that seems like a a good thing to me, coming from the time when home recording consisted of 4 tracks on a tascam porta 414 tape machine

people don't realize the power these new machines actually give them

mpc 5000 should let people do it from start to finish without ever touching a mouse until website upload

That's wishful thinking in my opinion.

Akai hasn't got a clue when it comes to coding pro quality effects, so mixing and mastering in the box will be rudimentary at best.

I personally think that NI has taken the most logical evolutionary step forward with Maschine... a trick that Akai has definitely missed with the 5k.

Can a 5000 do EVERYTHING a 1000 can do, plus have the 8 audio tracks for vocals/etc considering my mic would be going into a tube preamp and compressor then into the 5000 .. mix it master burn it

never even turn my computer on

that's what I would like to do with an mpc, make the beat record the vocals, mix it all, compress/limit it eq it burn it

Oh it can be done, I just think it would be easier and give much better results to track out to a proper daw for mixing and mastering... which kinda makes me believe the 5k was behind the times on the day it was released.

Each to their own though...

sure you can do it all with great resullts in the 5k.especially if you use good mikes pre amps fx on the way in.the 5k is no vintage mpc but its got features of its own.none other have the range of this brother.its actually v dynamic sound which has to be grasped by the visionarys........sure its a classic mashine in its own right.not perfect, but nor is my 4000(nearly)how about the constant input monitoring with fx and sending to separate outs with fx!!!!!some lovely filters and fx combinations.not perfect but can be as narly and electronic as you want(or can programe, imagine)synth is creative.although a lil frustrating.your computer system will give you a better overall sound and everything but this misses the point of hardware(dontcha think?)n i maschine i found to be sterile comparitavely which aint cool.but sounds nice(and huge pc range of course.!!!definatly a place for this black beasty as a full production unit.yo

I am really beginning to love this machine. Just came home from a session with my friends. Brought my 5000 for the first time and it was real fun. Love the usability and the q-links although I record everything into the same track to be able to use the q-links the way i want to (we do techno and drum and bass). I hated the 5000 with OS 1.x, with 2.0 it is really stable, everything can be done while the machine is playing, no glitches and chrashes. One down side is that it really takes long to open folders with more than say 500+ samples. I am going to split those folders to seperate ones named A-F, G-M and so on.
Replaced the HD with a SSD and it´s really smooth now. I have no worries to put it into the car and drive to the studio with it.

i read on another forum that the ssd drive in the mpc don t make it really faster...

well for me coming from another era with c64 loading times doesn t matter..

if you ever loaded on the c64 a game from a tape drive you know what loading times mean...

but another thing i m using also a lil phatty and since i m recording everything to my daw via adat i can use the analog outs for cool experiments...
like this:

i have the phatty connected via midi 1a and have the analog out 8 going into the audio in of the phatty!!
now i turn on the synth on the mpc and route it to analog output number 8...

so now you have to use the synth program at the same time with midi 1a that means you can use the mpc OSC with an analog filter !!on the regular i turn off the filter on the mpc and let the phatty do the job...
or i just turn on some noise on the mpc to dirt up some basses from the phatty...

you can use anything with a audio in imagine a sherman filter bank or the evolver?

hi everyone,
the reason for me to switch from the mpc1k to mpc5k was keygroups and the VA synth. Before the OS v.2 upgrade it wasn't enough for me. The virtual synth is great, the graphic display and all the Q-link controllers are wonderful to have.

I happen to like the sound of the 5000...I really loved the sound of the 4000 and I thought this was pretty close...I haven't A/B both units at the same time since I sold my 4000. But my first impression of the sound was pretty good. Much better than the 1000 or 2500 for sure...and much fatter sounding than my S5000 sampler...and the effects sound great. Overall feel of the sequencer is great as well...which is the main reason for using the MPC. I have been using computer sequencer (mainly Digital Performer) since it was just called Performer in 1989...and was never happy with the feel of the sequencer...Hardware sequencer definitely feels better...especially since the drums are triggered internally...and not with MIDI. MIDI is monophonic so it is only capable of playing 1 note at a time...chords sound like chords cuz the speed is relatively fast...However, when you stack bunch of tracks with drums, chords, bass, strings, etc...the timing really suffers...MPC alleviates that by using internal Drum and Sampler sources...

i totally agree with the sequencer thing, coming from cubase 4, i definitely like the mpc 5000 "MUCH" better as a sequencer than i did cubase 4.

it just 'works', and i like the sequencer in the 5000 also better than the mpc 1000, and the mv 8000, although i can't remember how good the sequencer was in the 2000xl.

... also, ... i, as well, really like the sound of the machine.
