I don't think they're being secretive...they probably just don't care...

AKAI was notorious for buggy OS' before Numark's takeover. I agree that we'll have to wait for NAMM for more info... Numark seems to think a new OS is a product announcement rather than a form of customer support that adds value to their name.

OK, it's 'official'.

The MPC5000 is no longer on Akai's dealer pricelists.

It's gone brothas and once all the stock in stores are gone, we'll neva see that sucka again!

Akai for the present has implemented the flagship status the the 2500-model.

It almost seems like hardware is beginning to go the way of the dinosaur. I was in another forum and someone asked about buying a new rackmount sampler. The only "new" rack unit that samples is a Fantom rack. What happen to the days of rackmount samplers? There use to be a selection from different manufacturers. Not anymore. Times are changing.

Times changed years back man... where have you been??! Software like Kontakt has changed the game for the better, but you can still get those old rackmount samplers if you pine after that workflow.

I'm ok with my current set up. I really would like an MPC that I could plug into my pc with one cord and have it access everything and track it too. That's all I really want. I don't need a rack mount sampler. I was just commenting on the fact that no one makes them anymore. Someone on Ableton's forum started a thread about buying one, and that's what made me start searching online for a new one. I just can't believe how much things have changed over the years.

My current set up is mostly software now:

Hardware:

MPC 3000
Yamaha Motif Es7

Software:

Ableton Live 8 Suite
Sonar 8 Producer
Pro Tools 8 Le (Mbox)
Reason 4
Sampletank XL
SonikSynth 2
Dimension Pro
Rapture
z3ta!
Ultra Analog
Beat Thang Virtual
Battery 2
Battery 3
Proteus VX
PSP Vintage Warmer
PSP Nitro
Khaerhus GAG-1
Ozone 3
Novation Basstation
Korg Legacy Collection Digital

Midi Controllers:

Akai MPD 32
Akai APC 40
Novation Remote 37 SL
M-Audio Trigger Finger

That's the problem really. It seemed like I was a lot more fluid back in the day with some 1200's, my MPC, and my ASR10. The only problem then was the wait time with zip disc, and the fact that they break down after a while. I think I'm on my fourth or fifth zip drive now.

donno but maybe, maybe im kidding myself with this hardware logic!could get a decent screen and have my favorite soft(y)ware loaded up all neatly, just like most other sane progressive people.a controller to nudge the bits around all safely in the controlled pc enviroment.hey its starting to sound like "brave new world"(a book by aldous huxley-check it out).the super clean utopia where nobody laughs or crys(he he).but its what you make it huh.i think one good mpc is enough and a lot of editing time on the plugins ect.just dont lose that live vibe eh.now whos got a nice quality big screen i can use.............
