Yo peepZ just a few questions,I have made up my mind and would like to go for the MPC 5000..

Curently I'm owning a MPC 2500 and would like to know if:

1) The hardisk is compatible with the 5000? (I know it already has one)

2) The expandeble memory, is the one that I curently have in the 2500 compatible with the 5000?

3) Are my projects made on the 2500 compatible with the 5000 as I dont see anything about it on akai's website?

4) The DVD drive is it compatible with 5000?

Don't ak me why I want to upgrade, I just want to.. But I would also like to know if any of you who previously had the 2500 and
are now owning the 5000 was it a good choice?? any regrets?? :)

1) The hard disk in the 2500 is 2.5", but in the 5000 is 3.5". There both IDE but the connectors are different and the chassis in the 5000 is obviously for the bigger drive. Theorectically there are various PC adaptors you could buy that should work but you'd be better off transferring the data over using your PC via USB or Compact Flash.
2) Totally different memory modules.
3) Yes. I went from the 2500 to the 5000 and the projects/sounds/sequences will all transfer over and load, however you do in some cases need to do some tweaking for q-link settings, filters etc.
4) If its the official Akai CDM-25 drive then it should work, but hacked drives are a bit of a hit and miss affaiir.

I had a 2500 and dont regret upgrading one bit. The timing is better, the filters stronger, effects more versatile and the whole box sounds better to my ears. Dont underestimate the synth either if your prepared to put in some time tweaking to get the best out of it.
