I'm new to Akai, and for my first one i bought the 5000. I've ran into a problem trying to burn CD's on it. After going to UTIL and choosing burn audio CD i get an Error "Invalid file extension for CD." Has anybody ran into this and can you help???

Format first like you would in your PC.

while we're on it, ... i got the cd drive right away when i first got my 5000, ... never had a problem burning anything, ... but when i put my burned cd into my macbook and tried to read/play it, ... never worked.

so instead, ... i always export my .wav files to my macbook and just burn'em on their. ... so much for my 'pure hardware' setup, lol.

Have you tried other dvd/cd players?

what's the point, i wouldn't hand someone a cd if there was even a remote chance that it wouldn't work on one or more various cd players.

i could check some others and i'm sure it would work on some, ... but who knows which ones don't work?

... and yes, i've tried different blank cds.

is it an authentic akai cd rom drive? What OS is i the 5k? Never had this problem. Did you close the disc

Page 189 of the manual
"You may repeat the above process until the disk is full, or you've added all the tracks you wish to have on your CD. Once you are satisfied with the content of your CD, the CD will need to be closed. This will finish the CD, and allow it to be played on any compact disk player. See the section titled 'Close Session' on page 176 for more information."

This is exactly my point! How the hell can you know it is or it's not your 5000, it's dvd/cd drive or your Mac and it's drive fault? It's all about ruling out the possibilities.

look, i'm not too concerned with fixing this problem, being that i was aware of it over a year ago.

yes, ... i know all about the manual and closing the cds, ... and yes, i bought the (AKAI) cd when it was brand new. i got this mpc when it still cost $2800 back in august of '08.

yes, i have burnt almost 100 cd's, ... and yes, they play back fine on the mpc, ...

because they will not play on 'all' cd drives, ... and i have a second option, ... which is to import wav files into my macbook via usb, then i can simply burn cds on my macbook, which works flawlessly and never has any problems playing on anything else.

i wasn't talking to try to get it fixed, nor was i uneducated since this is my 5th drum machine and i've been playing with music for quite some time now.

i was just (matter of factly) pointing out an observation. that is all. it is was it is, as they say.

i actually 'spent' like $250 on that 'akai' cd drive too, ... that's the funny thing. lol. ... cause i got it was soon as it was available.

Burning from the cd drive is to time consuming anyways.. Import them to a multi track prog and save urself some time..
