MPC5000 DVD drive

Has anyone checked to see which brand and model mechinism Akai use in their CD/DVD drive? I doubt that it would be one specifically built for the MPC, it's probably a fairly generic drive...

It's a Teac DW-224E drive with Akai MPC specific firmware. The standard firmware Teac drive will work in the MPC 2500 (after a connection pin modification) but not in the MPC 5000. The 5000 needs the Teac with Akai specific firmware. There are some sellers at ebay who have the ones that work in the MPC 5000 for cheap.

I didn't mean the really generic ones without the proper Akai firmware that can be had for cheap. There are good deals on the proper ones. The generic ones won't work with the 5k, only with the 2k5 AFAIK.
Without the mounting kit the drive is pretty loose in the MP's bay, only held by the connection pins.

If it's not the Akai one it won't have the mounting plate on the drive.

In the case of a drive failure though, a generic purchase could be a lot cheaper, and the mounting plate could be swapped from the Akai branded drive perhaps. I started the post because the drive in my 5000 that I bought used looks like it may be marginal. I am going on the hunt for a generic mechanism with Akai firmware if anyone does sell them and will see if I can install it using the mounting parts from the Akai branded drive.
