I've transitioned from an mpc 1000 with jjos2xl and I'm generally impressed. The sequencer is very impressive. I've Been having trouble editing samples however. It just seems much more difficult on the mpc 5000. Has anyone else made this transition. Was their anything to make it a bit less combersome or am I stuck with the awkward zoom system?

You've just transitioned from possibly the greatest ever OS made for any MPC, to one that is notoriously buggy, so you can't be that surprised.

What you gain in one hand you lose in the other.

That said, hopefully you will get used to it.

I made this exact transition. The only thing I really miss is assigning samples to pads from the main screen, and having so much important information on the main screen. There is absolutely no doubt a 5000 is way more capable than a 1000, you just have to dig a bit more. That is especially true for things like sample editing. Almost everything you want is in there, you just have to find it. It isnt the most logical OS Ive ever seen, but once you learn your way around it youll be fine.

As for the bugs, just make sure youre up to os 2 and a lot of it is fixed, but not all. I run into something every now and then, but not super often. Not nearly as much as people complain about because they read an article like 2 years ago.

Ive owned a few different mpc's. You will eventually get used to the one your working with. Zoom doesnt work? Its good to work visually, but better to use your ear and give a little human touch. A little sloppy, just a little...
